Yea I am sure all students basically pay nothing to go to Vandy

GTFO with that bs

Sure it's available to all students but the amount is the problem

It's based off what the kid's parents make. Is it VUs fault most of its students come from well-to-do families? Basically, take cost of attendance and subtract the EFC (Expected family contribution) and you have how much need based aid a kid gets.

Recently, we lost 2 signees because their parents income increased and it was going to cause the kids to come out of pocket - Keenan Eaton who is now at Wichita State and Jason Sierra who went the Juco route.

Don't let facts get in your way though.

Your all a bunch of whiners saying Vandy has an advantage because of blah blah blah. Vandy has an advantage because they have a coach who knows how to build a program and win. PERIOD. UT can and does offer Pell grants and other creative funding to help players. UT has the benefit of lottery schollies that Vandy does not. All schools have and do find ways to get players in. Until this school makes progress on the field, it does not matter how many schollies you have or any of that BS, no one wants to come here right now. The perception of this program is that it sucks. And until someone changes it, it will suck. Corbin turned VU around in 2 years without the benefit of Juco's that DS has. I am sorry but DS is not going to get it done here. PERIOD. You can look for all the excuses in the world but they lay at the feet of the coach.

Take VU football for example. they sucked forever and then a coach comes in and changes perception and boom, they passed us up that quickly. Same thing can happen here in baseball if you get the right guy.

To change the subject.

Georgia is playing Mercer against after losing 16-3 or something last week and they begin the game with booted ball at 2nd, WP and long extra base hits. Down 2-0 w/ 0 outs in the first.

This was a bad team that we just handed the series sweep to in every way!

We failed to pressure their poor defense.
We gave them extra bases.
We gave them runs

Now a balk.

ugh. Worst series loss in my 23-years following Vol baseball.

Missed Fly ball in OF. Passed ball, Walk in 2nd. 4-0 Mercer in 2nd w/ 2 on and 0 outs.

UGA in the dugout was very boisterous in the dugout on Sat. and Sun. as if they thought they turned the corner when they failed to realize we just sucked more than them.

The 1 HR on Friday and 2 HRs early on Sunday was all they did. The rest was us.

It's called Vandy and their scholarship "structure".

I posted from the time CDS was hired this was a major uphill battle and mostly it wouldn't reflect upon his coaching skill.

I am not a fan at all of his style of play mainly because of our ball park playing very small but the inability to win recruiting battles against Vandy in state is and will be the biggest problem this program has. And there is nothing ANY coach can do about it unless the NCAA/SEC steps in to stop it.

In any given year there might be at most four high major baseball recruits in the state and at least two of them will sign a pro contract. People forget that the year David Price came to Vandy, their best signee was Kyle Waldrop, and he reneged on Corbin and went pro on draft day.

This year Vandy has more in-state signees than any time during Corbin's tenure, and the three best in-state signees are projected to sign pro contracts (two pitchers and one position player).

Almost all of their best players are from out of state.

If you look at Tennessee's current roster, how many of their out-of-state recruits are true pro prospects? If you play in the SEC and you cannot get elite kids from Texas, New England and California to come to your program, you have no hope of competing.

Question for the board:

How many more years does CDS get to turn the baseball program into a consistent fixture at Hoover and Omaha?

IMO, the consensus seems to be that he needs to show some improvement next year or his job could be in jeopardy. Merely speculation though.

He is recruiting high level players. I understand the fine line because you have to get great players into the program instead of missing on those that go pro. But he should get at least another year or more because of how he is recruiting. JMO.

I think if next year is the same as this year, it's going to be very hard to justify keeping him; though I have no idea who to replace him with.

He's a good coach and yes he followed the worst coach in UT history, but at some point you have to win or go home.
