Manafort really screwed up with his choice of lawyers that want to argue that "It was all Gates" defense. He should have hired the law firm of Redhat, Redhat, & Redhat to argue the political motivation defense in this case.

Everyone in politics at the time knew not to touch Manafort. He was at the bottom of the political barrel for a reason. It’s not the DOJ’s fault that Trump hired him.

This isn't a new theory. But it definitely makes sense. Here's an opinion piece from last October stating the same.

Was Manafort paid by Russia to be Trump’s campaign manager?

Cute. But it's more likely that both came to the same conclusion. Just saying it's not far from the realm of possibility. I also thought the same. Now as far as Trump knowing, we will see.

Not a bad notional theory about Manafort. Time will tell.

However the attachment to Trump doesn’t match the demonstrated administration actions to date. Trump has ratcheted the line up against Russia since taking office and the Russian actions in the Ukraine are a specific reason why.

Manafort might have been on the Russian dole. But I see no evidence or even loose connection Trump is. In fact I see just the opposite.

Yes yes I know you guys want to talk all about the Putin summit. I don’t GAF about it. I look at the actual policy enforced to date.

It's not new. I know that. What WAS new to me was that Manafort was broke when he went to work on the campaign. That certainly supports a theory that he was getting paid on the back end.

The Trumpsters keep saying that publicly while privately rooting for Manafort so that, if he's acquitted you can screech that it WAS about Russia.

It's pretty obvious.

After Downing gets done shredding Gates credibility which right now already looks fairly complete Trump damn sure won’t be credibly connected to Russia from anything going on in this kangaroo prosecution that’s for sure!
