Bottom line is this:

4 years, 4 trips to the NCAA, 2 sweet 16's, #1 ranking, 2 SEC East Divison Titles, 1 SEC Regular Season Title, Recruiting McD's All Americans, Sold Out TBA, BBall Revenues Out the Arse!

Boy I dream of the days of Jerry Green, don't the rest of you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let me get this straight:
Pearl and his staff have the best record in the SEC over the past four years and he's the third highest paid coach....

And you think Hamilton got manipulated for keeping Pearl for presumably under $2.5 million when he is 7-1 against the guy making $3.5 million and 2-2 against the guy making $3.7 million?

And, a school that's easier to win at and recruit to is offering $3 million?

Having talked to all parties and reported this, it seems all parties handled it all pretty responsibly.

Actually, he was the 4th highest paid until yesterday. Bammer's new coach, Anthony Grant, was set to be paid more than Pearl.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just want to start by saying that I like Bruce Pearl and I think he is a good coach. However, this is a tired argument.

Reverend!

And the other thing is... people sometimes forget that regular ole business is alot different than sports. What would people be saying about MH if he let BP go to MEMPHIS!? That's like having Nick Satan go to Auburn because they offered him 5 mil a year. Bama fans would be livid.

It's not even close to the same.

Funny you should sarcastically mention "the days of Jerry Green" after listing all of the highlights of Pearl's tenure in Knoxville.

Like Bruce, Jerry also went to 4 AA's in 4 years, recruited some All-Americans, made a Sweet 16, and won a couple of back-to-back East Division Titles.

If true its the "reported" Pearls gauging the interest I have a problem with. I also have a problem with the Pearl turned down Iowa, Indiana,Arizona etc reports. Funny thing is had Bruce just waited it out he might have gotten the 'zona job by default. I don't care what they pay Bruce more power to him but come on Griff don't act like there wasn't anything going on in the shadows.

Are you suggesting that Indiana and Arizona didn't have offers on the table for Bruce? Typical Negavol nonsense.

Pearl could have been the head Hoosier or Wildcat if he'd so chosen. FYI - he also took his name out of the running for the UK job last week, and had previously turned down the Knicks job and US Olympic team gig.

If you had one year at your job where your production was a little sub par while the first three years were exceptional, and you were being beckoned by other companies for your service, wouldn't it make sense for your boss to offer you a little bit more incentive to stay so that he and the company could reap the benefits of your future efforts?
Chances are had I been handing out resumes I would have been fired but considering that I can't be replaced, maybe not.

Out of curiosity...has anyone actually found out exactly what these phantom offers are going to cost us?

More spam?

We had a breakthrough today. Writer32 posted in a thread he didn't start. Maybe he is coming around...but I'm one of those that doesn't have the self control to keep from clicking. There I admitted it!

Bottom line: Bruce has done a good job with the program, considering where the program was when he got here. Maybe with a little luck he makes a few deep runs in the tourney one day.

However, you only throw 3 mil at someone that you KNOW will land you in the final four.

2.5 is the right number in my opinion. It keeps UT in the top-tier in the conference and nation, which is EXACTLY where it should be. For the fans who want to pay like a tightwad, go root for one of the losing programs in the SEC.

Why can't you be replaced? Are you the only one at the office that can make the coffee just right?

“I want to be able to say, unequivocally, that leaving was not an option,’’ Pearl told the News Sentinel. “Where there was smoke, there was fire.’’

Why does he deserve a raise if leaving was not an option?
