OK. I actually agree with you that he did not deserve a raise on what he accomplished this year.
He did receive the raise to continue on the successful track this program in on, and to stabilize this program for future growth and success. Sometimes it's what is foreseen in the future that pushes programs to take care of their people now.
We know where we are and are comfortable where we are headed. If Bruce left, there are no guarantees, none, that we will continue on this path.
He deserves a raise to stabilize the program for future success?
How does Pearl making more money guarantee success?
If Bruce makes more money there are no guarantees he will have success future.
How does making $500,000 more guarantee future success?
No one is saying he deserved a raise based on last years team. What we are saying is that it's worth it to give him a raise so that he doesn't leave for Memphis. Do you guys agree with that, or should UT have let Bruce go?

You are either growing or dying. In business and sports. You either run this organization like a Fortune 500 company and continue to grow, that means compensate people and expect a return on your investment. Or you live with status mediocre results and die a long agonizing death.
What Coach Pearl has done in the past 4 years has proven his ability to build a program. Now he must continue to build into the future. It's not about the money it's about a stable program building toward the future.
Ok, since none of us really know what happened behind closed doors, I propose a question:
If Pearl was going to go to memphis if UT did not give him a raise, do you pay him or let him go? That's what we are all talking about, but people keep acting like its not a certain whether he would leave or not. Well, no kidding. BUT if he was going to leave, do you pay him more to keep him?
You'll eventually learn that you can't argue with a guy who has disliked Bruce because UT beat MTSU by about 600 points a couple years ago.Let me get this straight:
Pearl and his staff have the best record in the SEC over the past four years and he's the third highest paid coach....
And you think Hamilton got manipulated for keeping Pearl for presumably under $2.5 million when he is 7-1 against the guy making $3.5 million and 2-2 against the guy making $3.7 million?
And, a school that's easier to win at and recruit to is offering $3 million?
Having talked to all parties and reported this, it seems all parties handled it all pretty responsibly.

Did he not have a stable contract?
No problem. I just think that if he left over money, then he doesn't have any real faith in the future of this program. I wan CBP to WANT to be here, and not just for the money.
