Manning / Brady -

Just wondering cause I'm curious. I know I'm going to get killed for this, but I reallyhave to ask. I'm a diehard Vols / Patriots fan. I love Peyton and Timmy Tommy Brady equally probably as much as anyone. I like to think because of that I'm pretty unbaised when it comes to this argument.. but To people who think Peyton is the greatet ever, why? cause he wore orange?

Was last night Peytons fault? Absolutely not. But he still had 3 pro bowl caliber recievers.. a pro bowl caiber tight end. a running back who will get a nice 4 year deal somewhere in FA.. and he laid a "duck" in the big one. Seattle had the better team.. but irregaurdless. If Rodger, Brady, or even frieken Romo played like that last night they get crucified.. Peyton gets the free pass.. why?

The worst part of the game to me as i was not even surprised to see peyton struggle so much. Tom Brady missed 2 throws in the AFC title and that STUNNED me. I saw Tom Brady take a band of misfits to 13 wins and I saw Peyton (With phenom. stats) have the most talented offense in the league since 07 pats play horrendously.

SO FINALLY I ASK - why do my vol fans so strongly believe Peyton is better then Brady? Is it the stats? As a patriot vol fan.. I'm taking Tom.. 100 out of 100 times. Peyton is the GREATEST regular season qb ever.. but that isnt whats most important.. ask Dan marino.

and to you, if the SB race ends 3-1 brady, (i think its likely atleast one of them wins again), how do youjustify Peyton over Brady?

Just to be clear.. this isnt about last night. Seattle dominated, period. This is comparing Brady from 2000-present to Manning 99-present.
just curious.. sorry for the length.:peace2:

Really?? Irreguardless? Listen up pup. I really couldn't care less about your picking pro teams based on resent results or historical results. I've seen so much of that I've written it off as people who have to validate their lives. But Peyton is better because he's done things to revolutionize the game and most talking heads say so. Even Teddy Bruschi said Peyton, regardless(irreguardless, lol) of SB wins/losses is the best ever right now. Get used to the idea.

Seahawks were the better team...it doesnt seem to complex to me. I dont understand how people get into personalizing it onto a single player. Is Peyton "better" than Russel Wilson? Prolly at this point he is. But the Seahawks were better than the Broncos and thats why they play the game. I think the 49ers would have trashed the Broncos and even the Saints would have been tough for them. NFC was better this year and Seattle was the champ. Also, look at the Denver D...I mean how bad were they?

Sorry Sorry Thread!
Who gives a ratz arse about who is the Best QB.
Terry Bradshaw has 4 Rings and could not carry Peytons or Bradys jock strap.
QBs are for jock sniffers and media to talk and fondle over. '
Last time I looked, it is a TEAM game and people like you spend waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay tooooooooooooo much time worrying about the QB.
Championships are won with D and a RB and QB that don't turn the ball over!!! That is it. That is the list...GET OVER freakin QB fetish!@!!

All of Brady's dominance came from pre spygate...

since the Pats were busted as cheaters... they have done nothing.

Personally, I do not count those superbowls due to the fact they were CHEATING.

why do the brady fans constantly ignore this FACT... CHEATER CHEATER CHEATER CHEATER..

P.S. They Cheated....

P.S.S Did I mention they were CHEATERS??????

I disagree. Players are players of their eras. The playbooks of the times, the coaches of the times, even the organizational politics of the time are all factors in success and failures. Example: Put Peyton in the heyday of Sammy Baugh. Sammy had to play QB, punter, and DB and he was darn good at all those positions. In that era, Peyton would be a non-trick pony. You didn't have a lot of fast WRs with massive leaping ability and so forth.

Peyton is a workaholic, he would have been a so so QB in Starr's era. Because it was common for players to be somewhat lax to the point of sneaking sips of whiskey before and during practice. They relied mainly on natural ability more than anything. Indeed, one Packer, Max McGee spent the night before the first Super Bowl getting smashing drunk, showed with a hangover. Played when Dowler got hurt. Peyton would have no tolerance for such behavior. But in that era he'd be considered an overbearing kid and made unwelcome on the team. He'd either be traded or end up having an "accident."

What I'm saying is any player is the product of his era. Presuming to take him out of it and put him in another is an exercise is sheer folly. The precision throws and very cerebral approach to the game we see now, didn't exist back then. And Peyton wouldn't be doing them either because the game hadn't evolved to that point at the time. Plus the general philosophy was to run, run, maybe pass this time but run some more. See that cloud of dust, sonny? That means it was a good run. But coach, we only got 3 yards! It was still a good run son, now do it again.

Which is why being voted Most Valuable Player (i.e. more valuable than your peers) 5 times should be a most telling number.

Indianapolis average league defensive rank during Peyton's tenure (1998-2010) (yards allowed) - 14.4

Denver average league defensive rank during Peyton's tenure (2012-2013) (yards allowed) - 11.5

New England average league defense rank since Brady started for them in 2001 (yards allowed) - 16.9

And yet New England was 6th, 1st, and 2nd in scoring defense in seasons ending with Super Bowl wins.

I have seen a ****load of really f****ng stupid comments in this thread, and I've only read 3 of the 11 pages. A lot of retards have apparently been convinced they're not retards.

First of all, gonna' give credit where it's due: Regardless (props to HBCButch for making fun of dude saying "irreguardless") of who you think is better, Manning and Brady are hands down 2 of the best QB's of all time, and NOTHING will EVER change that.

That being said...
So many people are quick to give Brady all the credit for the 3 SB wins and say "Brady has 3 rings, so he's better than Manning", as if this is Tennis or Golf, completely ignoring the other 52 players and 7 or more coaches who contributed to the wins.
I don't think anyone, not even the retards who have already proven themselves to be retards, would disagree with the assertion that Brady has been a better QB from '05-present than he was from '01-'04. Despite this, his three rings were won in '01, '03-'04. He's been there twice since then, losing both times. One of those times was with an offense very similar to this year's Broncos offense (I say this because Manning's detractors always say "Durrrr Manning had all those weapons and only won 1 SB Durrrrrrrrrrr...Durr" as if defense literally does not exist).

So if The Pats won thrice in Brady's first 5 seasons, and Brady is a better QB now than he was then, then why have they lost the last two they've been to? Without a doubt, it's because the Pats, as a TEAM, weren't as good as they were in the early-mid 00's. People put so much emphasis on the QB's that their impact on the game gets overblown. A QB can put the ball EXACTLY where it needs to be, but if the receiver runs the wrong route, or breaks off his route early, it gets picked and looks like the QB just made a horrible throw. Of course we all know how important the defense is. There are just way, way, WAY too many moving parts in football to be able to point to a Championship(s) that took 53 players and 7+ coaches to win, and use that to say "This individual is better than that individual". It is the most assinine argument in team sports, certainly in football.

Manning and Brady are 2 of the best ever, period. Any argument attempting to rank one ahead of the other is a giant waste of time.

Think of this: The two best offenses of all time have now both been to the Superbowl, both scored significantly lower than their season average, and both lost. They were QB'd by Manning and Brady. No matter how good a QB is, they will not beat a team who has an elite defense if they also do not have at least a good defense, and even then it's not a given. Defense truly wins championships
