Manti Te'o's Dead girlfriend never existed?

Probably most of the all though, this looks absolutely terrible on the media(probably why ESPN waited so long to say anything). Hilarious stuff all around.

That's not a good reason

"Our football team has a big game to play, so were gonna keep under wraps our knowledge of what could possibly be the biggest hoax in sports in quite some time."

Is it the morally correct thing to do? No. But how many coaches and schools are going to leak a story about a hoax on their star days before a title game they haven't seen since the 80s? Very few. Particularly Notre Dame.

Even though its from the awful and horrible Dead Spin, its pretty damming evidence imo.

Sure, there is some good evidence. However, I don't think a deadspin article is the end all to make a proclamation that he's 100% guilty.

Sounds like a good reason to me.

If I'm Notre Dame, why the hell would I want that to get out?

So nobody else would get ahold of it and release something like deadspin did today. Now ND has to come out after the fact, and say they has knowledge of it, but never said a word about the situation.

Either way, there's a good argument for both sides. Insane doesn't even begin to describe this story though.

In light of Lance Armstrong's now admittance of doping, and all the crap that he put his detractors through prior to his admittance, it should really open one's eye as to how far someone would go to cover his/her lie.

I think Lance Armstrong has been a bit of an egomaniac since the beginning. But, the facts aren't entirely out there and that is a valid point. At this time we are only speculating.

Te'o issued a statement Tuesday afternoon:

"This is incredibly embarrassing to talk about, but over an extended period of time, I developed an emotional relationship with a woman I met online. We maintained what I thought to be an authentic relationship by communicating frequently online and on the phone, and I grew to care deeply about her.

"To realize that I was the victim of what was apparently someone's sick joke and constant lies was, and is, painful and humiliating.

"It further pains me that the grief I felt and the sympathies expressed to me at the time of my grandmother's death in September were in any way deepened by what I believed to be another significant loss in my life.

"I am enormously grateful for the support of my family, friends and Notre Dame fans throughout this year. To think that I shared with them my happiness about my relationship and details that I thought to be true about her just makes me sick. I hope that people can understand how trying and confusing this whole experience has been.

"In retrospect, I obviously should have been much more cautious. If anything good comes of this, I hope it is that others will be far more guarded when they engage with people online than I was.

"Fortunately, I have many wonderful things in my life, and I'm looking forward to putting this painful experience behind me as I focus on preparing for the NFL Draft."

right.....even though they met in Hawaii.

What a crock!

Who took his money? He either paid for flowers or he didn't.

"Hey, floral shop, I would like you to send flowers to this address. White roses please. Here's my credit card number and have them there ASAP please. Thanks."

Again, how does that prove anything?

If it was just an online relationship that he was duped about, why feed all the reporters the maudlin BS about how he had 8 hour phone calls with her every night while she was in the hospital? Why did he say he met her in 2009 if his Twitter interactions with that account didn't start until 2011?

There are certainly some details in this story that make Teo sound more guilty of a hoax than being gullible.

there was no funeral though

Understood. But if I call a florist or funeral home and say "I want 2 dozen white roses sent to the funeral of Lennay Kakua" they are either going to take my money or say "We aren't holding a funeral for anyone with that name."

That's not how flowers are ordered for funerals. It's not like ordering roses for your anniversary.
