Marlon Brown

Marlon certainly does sound like a tool. Who actually decides to announce the day after signing day months in advance?

Brown said he still intends on waiting until Signing Day on Feb. 4 before making his final decision known.
Although the Bulldogs are definitely high on Brown's list of teams, watch out for Tennessee.
Despite the resignation of former head coach Philip Fulmer, Brown said that new Vols' coach Lane Kiffin has been recruiting him very hard. So far he likes what he's seen.
"He's a nice guy," Brown said of Kiffin. "It (the coaching change) isn't going to make a difference at all."

.

He wants to be like Pryor. I really couldn't care less if we get this kid. I think he will be a disappointment and a lousy teammate. The only reason getting him is big is due to our need to keep in-state players. MB already sounds like the next T.O or Ocho Cinco but I doubt he has near the talent.

You know...I remember you calling me a loser because I called a 17 year old(Giles) a name....hmmm

Giles was out for attention to be real, but Brown is trying to make himself out to be the #1 recruit in the nation like Pryor did last year.

I'm just jabbin' at 625 a little...no harm intended...

And I understand exactly what it's like to get irritated enough at some of these recruits to call them a name(i.e. like I did with Giles)

Is it wrong or maybe immature to call a 17-year old a name....yes

Is it understandable with todays recruiting scene being what it is to get irritated enough to resort to name calling...I think so

The thing about Brown is he's not even close to that...he's not even in the top 50 according to Rivals...and he's only the #8 receiver...

From all I read he's lazy, cocky and overrated....

I have a feeling that we wouldn't even be going after him very hard if he wasn't an "in-state" guy

Meh. Shoot me. You were more frustrated that he chose USCe. This whole wait until NSD crap is so unnecassary. I mean the kid decided to wait until NSD basically a year in advance. It's so stupid.

Yeah that was a big part of it...I was also frustrated with the way he drew it out and made such a hoopla about it...much like Brown is doing

I think it's safe to say we're both pretty fed up with how some recruits chose to handle their recruiting process...

This has happened every year that I've followed recruiting...if I were more of a grownup I would either ignore these type of players or just quit following recruiting all together...but it does pass the time when I'm not too busy at work

He just wants attention. I hope he does the grown-up thing and tells everyone to stop calling him, because he's obviously in thought and has his leaders picked out. Problem is, he won't, I'm sure, and I'm not too sure that I want another Kelley Washington on the team, like Giles would have been.

If he does end up committing here, all of you guys calling him a media hog will be rainning down praise toward him when he does.
Not trying to stir the pot, just saying be patient. If he wants his 15 min, then thats on him.

I don't think we need this kid on the hill. I know philosophically we want to keep our top recruits in state... but we don't really need garbage stinking up our kitchen either. There is way too much... crap... surrounding this kid. Too much prima donna, too much ego, not enough substance. Additionally, if Kiffin's practices are really as difficult as rumored, a lazy me first guy will never last.

Cut bait IMO.

could not disagree more. what has he done to be labeled a prima donna? nothing. he's a kid trying to decide where he will spend the next four years of his life, not to mention choosing an institution that he will forever be linked with. cut him some slack. Im sure you had it all together at 17 years old right?

I have said that before and couldn't agree more with you General...

I honestly believe if Brown was from another state we wouldn't be going after him so hard....we probably would have cut bait by now

I know we need to "put a border up"...but all I have read about him is that he's basically a big fish in a little pond....

Do we relly need a kid who is rumored to have a poor work ethic and has made a name for himself by outplaying kids who aren't good enough to walk on at UT?

I think the answer is obvious

Nothing I've seen from him supports anything you've said. He's just a high school senior who doesn't know what he wants. There is certainly nothing wrong with that.

I've seen enough in this thread to set of many warning signals. From what I read, he's really playing up to the attention, and enjoying it.... a lot. Then there are the repeated accusations of laziness and playing against weak competition. I don't think that his size and the fact he's from Tennessee is enough to offset the apparent negatives.

The bottom line is, we don't need another Kelly Washington, we need guys that are going to bust their butts for the team, not their own personal spotlight. I don't know which category Marlon will fall into... but from what I see, IMO the odds are better the former than the latter.

Oh, and not that it matters, but I knew for 100% certain that I was going to Tennessee at 17.

I've seen more narcissism discussed in this thread than from any of our other current commits. For example, David Oku, who is a better player in the eye of rivals, etc., doesn't find it necessary to cater to the pandering and draw out the process to enjoy the limelight as long as possible.

Look, if we get him and he turns out to be a great team player, outstanding. I just see warning signals after wasting an hour of my life reading through this crap.
