Marlon Brown

2 or 3 days before he commits!? Let us know so we aren't all in suspense for his announcement.:)

I'm currently working over Sister Cleo and John Edwards to give me info on our signing class. Right now, they are saying that it is a great possibility that we may or may not have a fairly decent chance at probably getting Brown to sign.

The Ole Miss rumors are not even close to being true...

It will be UGA and UT...and at this point I would put UGA in the lead.

His visit here will have to be great...

ya I mean he has made a good impression on Stokes so who knows what he can do with Brown. I just can't believe this kid wouldn't want to play here especially after Kiffin mentioned him in the Presser.

he also made one heck of an impression on R. Randal as well...maybe to the point of getting a visit from Randal.

I have been reading these messages about Marlon for a while and I have had a chance to meet the young man and have connections with the staff at his high school. Just a couple thoughts:
1. Marlon can't help the type of competition he competed against in high school, but what he did was absolutely dominate that level. He isn't a top prospect just because, the kid has serious skills and youre crazy if you don't think that.

2. Marlon is an extremely sharp kid. He isn't one of these 'thugs' as some people have been called on this board. In a time where high school kids are becoming more and more crazy, Marlon is a good kid who attends church whenever the doors are open and doesn't party. He has his head on right, which can't be said for the last kid that Tennessee recruited from Harding. His interviews are just an 18 year old kid not enjoying the spotlight of being put on the spot. I know from an experience that I had trouble speaking to my college speech class, much less to a TV camera after I ran 70 yards on ESPN.

3. Ole Miss is a serious contender for him because of the the way they will use him. I think the fact that it is so close to home is something he doesn't like and the fact they got in late on him. In my opinion if Ole Miss had been interested from the beginning, he would already be committed there.

4. Drayton being fired was a big move for him. This was the guy he had become closest to of any school that was interested and this from what I have heard is probably going to hurt our chances more than anything that happens on his visit.

5. People who say he wants the spotlight on him are crazy. He just doesn't know where he wants to go. People forget that a year ago he was set on playing both sports in college and I think in his mind he might still be leaning towards this. I know him and Andy Kennedy have talked and it was at Ole Miss where Greg Hardy played both sports as well.

6. This would be a huge sign for Tennessee. He is a rare talent for somebody his size. He can do things in pads that most people cannot do period. If he comes to Tennessee he will be a star. That is why he is a top priority for Kiffin and Co.

Man I want us to get Marlon so bad for so many reasons. I think he will be a big time player too, but I also think it will be an equally impressive statement if he puts that Vol hat on in the primetime ESPN announcement, sending a message that the VOLS ARE BACK! Come on Marlon, get to know Wilson and be the man that makes our program tops again!

I agree he has to be doing something right to rated as high as he is and I think it would be beneficial to Marlon and UT if he decided to attend college here at UT.

Guy needs to get real. They can promise him all they want that he can play basketball and football but it's just not happening. It hardly EVER happens. EJAW was supposed to play basketball this past year.

I doubt Marlon's ever that great of a basketball player. So I'll be pissed if he chooses Ole Miss because they promise him that - because I guarantee he won't see the hardwood.

I don't know if there is a gut feeling with him. He has his pro's and con's list with every school. I think Ohio State is out because of the distance and weather, he has mentioned not liking the cold weather there. I don't think it is Ole Miss because of how late they got in. And I don't think it is Florida because of the type of offense they run isn't fit for a WR like him.

That leaves UT and UGA. I really think the Drayton thing will come back to bite us a little, although he was not coming here with Fulmer I know for a fact. He really likes Kiffin and O, and his grandmother has a big say in what happens. She apparently loves Coach Richt and everything done on the visit, and it is a huge plus that he is Church of Christ.

I think in the end though if I had to put three hats on the table and pick one, he picks between UGA, UT, and Ole Miss...and he puts the Orange on. (If he likes Wilson, which is TBD, I think they met today)

In my opinion No... Memphis is kind of the melting pot for college teams. I think he is hearing voices for everywhere on the list except Ohio State.

I think we all realize that with the potential of big time recruits that Kiffin and Co will bring in 2010 and later....that UT will be back in a big way. I just hope that Marlon realizes that he can be a part of something very special....in his home state. This would be such a get for the 2009 class. I hope his meeting with CFW went great and he soon forgets Drayton.

He may not be the first Tennessean that left the state to regret it. Look at Brandon Warren and Tyler Smith. He could end up at Ole Miss and look like a big fish in a small pond. If he comes to UT he could really develop his potential with this new coaching staff.

Welcome to the board cascade. I have two questions.

1. Are you related to M. Brown

2. Who was the last player we recruited from Harding.

I'll hang up and listen.

Thanks for the questions caller... to give you the abbreviated version:

1. No

2. Todd Cox- 4 star RB/LB- He was the number 50 guy on rivals going into his senior year, then he slacked off, didn't get the grades, and jumped to a couple different schools (Ole Miss, Memphis)...

great to hear cascade. is there a lot of pressure around memphis to remain in state?

There is a lot of pressure at his school to go to UT. In fact, he has said that "everyone at Harding Academy would be disappointed if I didn't go to UT, but I am trying to figure out what is best for me."

It is true that his grandmother really like coach MR but she was also impressed with Coach O at one of his recent basketball games. They sat together the entire game and talked while an Ohio State recruiter sat off in the stands and had very little contact with her or Marlon.

I am certain that the race is between UGA and UT. I really hope that the crowd at the Florida vs. UT basketball game will let him know how much we really want him there. He still has the thought of playing both BBall and Football in his mind and if we can just get him on campus it is a win-win no matter which direction he goes.
