It appears that Johnson was charges with aggravated assault after allegedly pointing a toy weapon at a motorist on I-40.

The other driver was a Wildlife Resources officer. They said he pulled up and pointed what looked like a weapon after becoming upset with his driving.

He was later pulled over and they found a toy weapon under the seat. He was charged and was being held on a 10,000 dollar bond..

If Fulmer is serious about the new discipline, he will cut Johnson loose.

The bad thing about this is that Johnson's brother is a top 2 player in the state for next year(TE/DE from Maryville who is already a Vol is the other). His bro was prolly gonna be a Vol too, idk if he will still be with his brother gone.

Somebody want to break out the old Tennessee code annotated, and tell us what kind of charge this likely is? The article does not say....

A toy gun? Good grief, our guys don't even thug it up properly anymore. If you're going to waive a piece, it should at least be real. We now have guys getting arrested for carrying around things that most 10 year olds have long since discarded. If we're not at rock bottom, it's the next stop on this route.

So you are saying it would have been better for him to have had a real piece hat? I don't think many coaches would agree with that.

The fact that he pulled it on a TWRA official could be trouble... Of course, if it just turns out to be one of those colorful plastic water guns, it may not be a problem at all.

Anyway, under the TCA:

§ 39-13-101. Assault

(a) A person commits assault who:

(1) Intentionally, knowingly or recklessly causes bodily injury to another;

(2) Intentionally or knowingly causes another to reasonably fear imminent bodily injury;

§ 39-13-102. Aggravated assault

(a) A person commits aggravated assault who:

(1) Intentionally or knowingly commits an assault as defined in § 39-13-101 and:

A Causes serious bodily injury to another; or
B Uses or displays a deadly weapon; or

(2) Recklessly commits an assault as defined in § 39-13-101(a)(1), and:

A Causes serious bodily injury to another; or
B Uses or displays a deadly weapon.

Thanks for the quick response. Just guessing and I know you are too, but $10,000 bond does not have the ring of no problem to me....

Embarassing.

First Mitchell, then Henderson, now Johnson. I'm at my wits end with the lack of maturity by our athletes. I know it's nearly impossible to field a squeaky-clean group of model citizens and compete for championships, but the spotlight is on our program, and we can't go 6 months without an incident.

From what I've heard, none of these situations were too extreme. Mitchell was a smartass to a cop, Henderson complimented a girl's skirt and was misunderstood by a family friend of the Fulmer's and wouldn't apologize, and Johnson pointed a toy at a TWRA official(though how realistic the gun looks may make it more or less serious).

Yeah, they're not huge problems, but problems nevertheless. After last season and all the trouble, you'd think these guys could try really hard to stay out of any kind of trouble.

Why in the world you'd pull a toy gun out and point it at someone is beyond me. Other than little kids, who carries a toy gun around with them in the first place? Just stupid...

Yeah, this one seems to be the stupidest and worst of all. I can see Mitchell's situation and I put the Henderson situation on Fulmer, but this was stupid.

Imagine how this story would have played out if the other driver had a real gun.

That's what I was thinking too. It's stupid in more than one way..

My very first thought was: That is a good way to get yourself killed.

Again, it depends on how realistic the toy was. If it was one of those old school toy guns that were banned, that would be a big issue.

HV I do agree with your assessment of this year's discipline problems, unfortunately that is the way the pendulum swings.Legally, I will be shocked if he gets anything but a slap on the wrist. It is the common sense department that seems to be lacking here. I still say that is one of the easiest ways to get yourself shot.

Let's use the Bobby Bowden discipline method, if he runs a sub 4.5 40 make him run after practice, if he's 4.6 or above suspend him for the opener against Slippery Rock
