I loved Pearl as much as anyone, but his offense was garbage without Lofton and Smith. His best offensive attribute became set plays out of timeouts.

Martin's is aweful too, but don't revise history.

Those two bailed Pearl's halfcourt "offense" out so many times.

Yep. Funny how everyone forgets that. Lots of threads about how terrible it was and I even remember some "Fire Pearl" threads because of it.

I was never impressed with CBP's offensive set. Yes, I loved to see the up tempo, transition plays, but the halfcourt offensive plan generally was to dribble up top for the first 25 seconds while everyone stands around, and then spend the final 9 seconds running a play. I feel like if you are running something for the entire possession, there will be plenty of times that you get an open look.

This is why I think Prince was so valuable during the E8 run. Sure, he made some bonehead plays, but he knew how to attack the zone when oftentimes we would just be standing around.

As an unapologetic "hater" for all things JP Prince, I'll admit he was good at that (sometimes to a fault), and we could have sorely used that skill the past couple years.

Pearls team ran an offense, and Martins are just offensive at times.

love revisionist history.

The last 3 years of Pearl's tenure people constantly complained about 25 seconds of baseline flex cuts and then jacking a shot.

Granted Pearl still won, but it's not like he is an offensive geniuous

Does it really matter. I like CCM but his offense is complete crap. Comparing his offense to Pearl's offense is laughable.

I was just trying to help keep it somewhat about the OP. It will probably end up merged into the Pearl thread though. :hi:

We reached the elite 8 with a half court offense and nearly the final 4.

I'm not saying we didn't experience success with it. Just that it wasn't what he was accustomed to coaching, and it showed in many games. Our offense was very stale at times in his last two seasons.

Pearl's offense was good enough to get us to the Elite Eight.
Cuonzo's offense is good enough to get us to the NIT.
