Martin Offense vs Pearl Offense

Why would he not?

Several reasons. And yes, I do have some legit information here. Pearl loves Tennessee. The fans, the program, etc. And he will never say anything to hurt UT. But, he also has disdain for how this was handled, not only from the UT admin, but also the conference. Hamilton is gone, but there are still several over there that could have helped avoid this entire catastrophe.
After Haith's penalties were handed down, the NCAA should have immediately revoked the remainder of the show cause from Pearl.

Pearl is ready to move forward. If Pearl were done with coaching, I wouldn't be surprised to see him sue over the how inconsistent the NCAA applied its penalties. The NCAA said that Haith misled and covered up violations. He is only suspended a handful of games, and the university stands behind him. Shame on the national media for not going after the NCAA on this as well.

But Pearl isn't done with coaching, and so he is essentially handcuffed. UT fans ought to be lucky this is the case, because Pearl could throw UT under the bus. Hamiliton had it messed up bad over there.

I love Pearl. I think he got the death penalty for jay walking. Call me a conspiracy theorist but i sincerely believe that UT sacrificed Pearl to save the football program. I think the NCAA wanted Pearl and UT complied.

So, UT fans who think he is coming back, would come back, etc., are wrong.

The NCAA and SEC get a piece of the pie every time one of those 100,000 tickets are sold and if Hart or the governor had the cajones we should set things aright. Hire him back and if the ones who set out to get him open their mouths tell them where to stick it.

Oh really?

Yes. Surely you recall the SEC's unprecedented suspension of Pearl for half the conference season.

Still haven't seen many posts relative to the OP's point but....

Pearl's Primary offense especially in his last two seasons was the flex offense. They would go straight into flex out of transition then if it got into a late shot clock situation he would call a quick set to get a shot. Jason Shae was actually alot more in charge of what they ran offensively than many people realize. Pearl was a natural leader so he knew how to delegate responsibility and he laid alot of the offensive responsibility on shae because he was an X and O guy.

Martin: Runs a motion offense that is more of a read type offense it gives players freedom in what they want to do but it also can quickly turn into street ball which is why often times it looks as if they are not running anything. The offense has a few set "rules" as to what you do when a player drives at you and things like that but it's not as structured as other offenses like flex or ucla.

I've never doubted that for a minute.

You're right about Shay. He brought a lot to Pearl's staff that was largely unnoticed. I'm not aware of how much input he had philosophically, but he did a nice job of teaching little things that make a difference regardless of what a team runs. The times I watched them practice, either in a clinic type setting on tape or in person, I liked a lot of what he taught from an individual skill development standpoint. Also, the time he spent with various NBA staffs studying ball screen defense was a big part in Pearl's success against Florida. The way Tennessee guarded Florida's side ball screens, called "icing or downing," (Basically, don't let them use the screen, keep the ball on one side of the floor, and out of the middle) was somewhat of a nuance at the time, and it was pretty effective against Donovan's ball screen offense.

Great post. And there is the proof that Tennessee will never take basketball seriously. It's something to do until football season is back (according to most)
