Marvel Cinematic Universe

uh, ok.

i just recall hearing of infinity stones in Thor. Tesseract and aether.

Either way, the point being, they knew they were going to put a team together and involve the key players, then introduce Thanos as the big bad (although they seemed to go the “court death” route at first) and that was obvious to everyone.

It doesn’t feel like the direction is very obvious right now. Granted that may change, but right now that seems to be the case.

I dont think they knew a dirction until first Thor movie.
I'm pretty sure the first "post credits" scene in The Incredible Hulk, where Stark meets Ross in a bar, the context of the scene is the team Stark is putting together (Avengers) were going to go after the Hulk. Which obviously that didn't happen. Also pretty sure that original post credit scene was more a favor by RDJ to help with promotion more so than a big planned thing.

I think they had a somewhat general idea of what they wanted but I don't think it was as put together as they retroactively act like it was.

Sam Jackson was in the post credits for Iron Man and I believe he used the word ‘Avengers’.

Phase 1 was was always about introducing the core group then have an Avengers movie. And the really was the plan. I remember reading about it in good old Wizard magazine way back before they even cast RDJ. That alone was pretty ambitious. There had never been a cinematic universe before. Separate franchises that would crossover was just unheard of.

I don’t think they started really thinking about Thanos until around the time they actually started making Avengers. Even the tesseract in Capt Am was really the Cosmic Cube from the comics. It had nothing to do with Soul Gems (Infinity Stones) initially. They did give it roots in Asgard just for that connective tissue to upcoming Thor movie.

Then they threw Thanos into the stinger and It seemed very tacked on… but exciting! It still took another 8 years to get to fruition.

The current direction is introducing new characters and lay the ground work for Kang.

I just don’t think they’re going to pull it off as far as the big picture and tying everything together. It already feels disjointed, and the characters just aren’t as likeable so far (minus Loki).

Personally I don’t think everything has to be or should be connected.

Victim of their own success for pulling it off the first time. Now it’s expected.

But the comics were never meant to be tied together all the time. Sure some story elements would bleed across titles if the same creators were working on two different books but for the most part each character was operating on their own space most of the time.

I read an article recently that basically said the MCU needs to figure out a direction and start telling us what it is, and quickly, and I completely agree.

One of the hallmarks of the MCU early on was that you would see a movie about an awesome character, then you would get a post credits scene tying it to another awesome character that has already either been in a movie, or been alluded to in some way. That caused a ton of hype, and it was easy to see where it was going.

Just off the top of my head, Eternal, Multiverse of Madness, and Love and Thunder all went the same route: introduce some obscure character that typical viewers need to Google. All they are really doing is hinting at oversaturation.

The MCU has built a ton of trust at this point, but I’m hoping this isn’t the beginning of the end of this period of cinema.

I mean all signs point to a Secret Wars movie right now.

yes and it will be probably end of Phase 5.

Keep in mind we are like 2 years behind right now. We were supposed to get Dr Strange and at Joe in 2021.

It does if Spider-Man met Daredevil prior to No Way Home. It says Charlie Cox Daredevil will return not Matt Murdock. It's possible Peter met Daredevil but didn't know he's Murdock in No Way Home.

I'm takling about the rest. Dr. Octavius, Harry Osborn, why would they be in the series if this is the same version of Peter Parker in the MCU? In NMH Peter and his friends laugh at Octavius' name and have no idea who he is. They establish there is no Oscorp in the MCU main universe. There is no Norman Osborn show what significance would a Harry Osborn be in this world?

Sure it's possible that this Dr. Octavius hasn't become a villain yet but what is his connection to Peter? As I said he and his friends laughed at the name, why would they laugh if they knew an Octavius in their world?

The only way this makes sense is if the author of the article screwed up, and this not a prequel but is referring to freshman year of college. That's the next logical step, but would be an awful big oops for the article

The project has been in the works a good while; it's supposed to a prequel series to Homecoming. It doesn't come out until 2024 so they have time maybe "correct" some details, but right now I'm scratching my head how this is going to work.

Also in this Doctor Strange is already The Sorcerer Supreme, that didn't happen in the MCU because Strange got blipped and even so when Peter Parker was a freshman in high school Strange was still a surgeon. So there's no way this is 616 MCU, my guess is now it's "multiverse".
