Marvel Cinematic Universe

So if you haven’t watched Ms. Marvel, that’s ok, it’s certainly the weakest of the MCU shows (although I really liked the main actress). But the finale was tonight and there were some pretty major implications (below).

At the end of the episode her nerdy brainiac friend tells her he took it upon himself to investigate her genetics. They had been trying to determine if her powers came from within, or from a family heirloom bracelet that she found. He said “There’s something odd with your genes, like a mutation”, then they played the tiniest little snippet of the X-Men theme. I guess we just met the first 616 mutant.

Also, there’s a post credits scene where Ms. Marvel gets sucked into a void, and then from the void Captain Marvel pops out. Sounds like maybe they will be incorporating the Negative Zone, and the family bracket is the key to it.

Show started promising. On par with Moon Knight.

I dont think its worse than IM3. THAT was poo.

Also didnt care for Shang Chi or Black Widow as much as some. Id rate it at bottom, but certainly not as bad as SC or IM3.
There has been a lot of poo more so since endgame. Those you mention were all bad but eternala was virtually unwatchable.

disagree, saw it as a set up for Galactus and Celestials. But ive always been interested in that. Prob since that nerdy dude @burntorangeVOLffle told me about Silver Surfer and Cosmic stuff back in 90's.

Wanda Vision, Loki, No Way Home were all as good as the top tier from Phase 1-3… I would even put MoM up there.

The rest has all been good entertainment to varying degrees. None had been outright garbage. And I’m even including Love and Thunder in that which I’ve been very critical of.

MCU fans were spoiled by the build up to IW amd Endgame. Now the expectations are so high they expect everything to be highly connected and building to another Endgame. it’s like they forgot it took 10 years to get there.

I liked Ms Marvel a whole lot more than I thought I would. I just finished the last 3 over last night and tonight. I don’t agree it was weak at all. The character was fresh and endearing. It was aimed at a slightly younger demo which is fine.

My kids absolutely adored it. Like looking forward to The Marvels.

I grew up on Marvel. Still have hundreds of issues in bags climate controlled, etc. I knew they were blowing their wad with Thanos and I was cool with that. I do not do Disney so I dont care about the TV shows. The movies since endgame have been terrible and I'll stand by that. Give me the animated Into the Spiderverse vs any of the other multiverse rehash movies. The others have just been bad. Part of the problem is that the reason they could make Marvel finally come to life was movie making tech. Now they rely completely on it. The stories, the writing has just gotten weaker and weaker. I will hold out hope for James Gunn doing something with GofG 3 but until they let directors come in and inject some personality and originality into their projects the characters that are left and any overarching connections are going to simply suck.

I think there are lots of second tier characters that could have great movies/shows if done correctly, but I think they don’t seem to know how to use them right now. I’m less and less impressed with what I’m seeing, although there’s an occasional surprise.

Eternals was maybe the worst movie of last year. God awful.

It wasn't even the worst superhero movie of 2021. That was Venom: Let There Be Carnage. That was pure freakin' garbage. And Sony already has that honor again this year with Morbius.

You're obviously entitled to your own opinion but if you think Far From Home and No Way Home are "terrible" then there's not much of a point to continue discussing.

Those two weren't terrible but a step below Holland's first. Also wasn't Far From Home pre Endgame?

No… it’s the first one after it.

If you feel like it’s over that fine. Endgame is a good jumping off point.

I too am a lifelong comics fan and I still think there is plenty to of good stuff ahead of us.

I read an article recently that basically said the MCU needs to figure out a direction and start telling us what it is, and quickly, and I completely agree.

One of the hallmarks of the MCU early on was that you would see a movie about an awesome character, then you would get a post credits scene tying it to another awesome character that has already either been in a movie, or been alluded to in some way. That caused a ton of hype, and it was easy to see where it was going.

Just off the top of my head, Eternal, Multiverse of Madness, and Love and Thunder all went the same route: introduce some obscure character that typical viewers need to Google. All they are really doing is hinting at oversaturation.

The MCU has built a ton of trust at this point, but I’m hoping this isn’t the beginning of the end of this period of cinema.

I'm pretty sure the first "post credits" scene in The Incredible Hulk, where Stark meets Ross in a bar, the context of the scene is the team Stark is putting together (Avengers) were going to go after the Hulk. Which obviously that didn't happen. Also pretty sure that original post credit scene was more a favor by RDJ to help with promotion more so than a big planned thing.

I think they had a somewhat general idea of what they wanted but I don't think it was as put together as they retroactively act like it was.
