Marvel's Black Panther

Outside of a few movies, Marvel has completely missed the mark with soundtracks. Its of of the biggest flaws in the MCU imo.

I agree. The Avengers has a decent theme refrain but no single character has a stand out theme on par with a classic like Elfman’s Batman or even Zimmer’s Man of Steel much less Williams Superman.

GotG is good but that is just because they are oldies pop songs.

I did like Mark Mothersbaugh’s score for Ragnarok but nothing was especially memorable.

I’m a DC fanboy and I’m even saying this movie is amazing . Micheal B Jordan finally gave us a villain with depth and Humility ... something marvel sucks at imo .

I'm glad to hear that it's garnering such high praise, can't wait to get around to seeing it. Might wait a week or so and go during a weekday so the crowds aren't awful, though.

Midweek matinee is the way to go. Last December I took a week off because I had too much PTO and only so much would go rollover. I went 3 days in a row to noon showings of Thor:Ragnorok, Justice League, and then opening day of The Last Jedi. I was literally the only person for both Thor and JL and TLJ had about 15 people. Totally awesome.

That's probably the route I'll take, my schedule gives me a lot more free time during the week as opposed to the weekend (There's good and bad to that). There's nothing like having a whole screening to yourself.

Audience score of 76% on rotten tomatoes. Pretty good score, but a bit out of sync with the heaps of praise from critics (97% from critics). It's a big chasm, but I don't think it is big enough to make it look like something nefarious has gone on. I'll give it a watch probably next weekend.

There are a lot of racists who typically give black movies like this low ratings while never actually seeing the movie.

This isn't surprising to me.

None of those movies are at the celebrated level for black future or whatever than this is. People are saying this will “Prove” something about black society in Africa. This is a fictional setting with a science fiction story about a superhero. The talk is hilarious. Also, please point out the specific movies with the vast inspiration for white people specifically. If you can even find any, go ahead and compare the buzz to this movie. Thank you.

Lol, getting psychoanalyzed from our resident - hey, wait a minute! -, this is exactly like Huffland! Hahahaha now I get it. You’re always living in your make believe reality and thus you defend this one!

Lmao. Can’t make this stuff up

Black Panther is actually closer to the truth about Africa before slavery than the imagery flooded to us in western media thanks to white supremacy.

Go and read up on the Kingdom of Mali and the great Mansa Musa. In the 14th century Mali and Timbuktu were the center of learning in the world with universities older than any in Europe. Mansa Musa was also the richest man to ever live according to Forbes. When he made his pilgrimage to Mecca he stopped in Egypt and gave away so much gold that it led to inflation in the price of gold in that region that lasted a decade. While Europe was in the dark ages, the scientists of Timbuktu were mapping the stars.

And this is just recent African history a few centuries before slavery. If not for slavery, colonialism, and the continued effects of white supremacy, Africa would be a world power once again.

All the other stuff? SMH.

We finally get a black movie that aint about slavery or the civil rights movement and without a white savoir there to save black people and yall got a problem with us embracing it?

Black Panther is a culturally significant film in a white supremacist world.

You should watch Blade. Wesley Snipes. Very good superhero/comic book movie.

Talking about race doesn't make a conversation racist. Racism has a very specific definition. You guys are misapplying the word.

Just because you are uncomfortable about a discussion about race because it reveals some ugly truths about the white supremacist world we live in that you benefit from doesn't make it racist.

Europe screwed up by trying to colonize every damn corner of the globe. Can't un-ring that bell. You, having been raised in a world where white supremacy was once a prominent ethos, it really skews your perception of the role of the average white man in modern times. I think in today's time an overwhelming majority of white people are sensitive to the hardships that were imposed on black people and how it has affected their beginning of life circumstances (in general) in a post-white supremacy world. These same white people, however, can have their racial sensitivity dulled and can become callous as a result of being continually accused of being part of some predominant white supremacist hierarchy. Any action or inaction can be perceived by the black population as supremacy. "Why is this white man trying to help us? Does he think we aren't good enough to help ourselves? ******* white supremacist!" Or "This white man sees our struggle and doesn't even get involved! He must not think we're worth helping! ******* white supremacist." I know it may be hard to believe, but most white people don't give two sh*ts about yours or anyone's skin color. Most white people are concerned with raising their families, going to work, and enjoying their lives. There isn't anything in it for us to oppress you or your fellow population of black people.

Zack: “Man I am really excited about this movie. I loved it. I can’t wait to see discussion about it Friday night when people go to see it.”

Reality: I have to go delete 20 posts so I can try to stir the conversation towards the movie and not about race only.

So anyways, imma try and correct this:

Was anyone surprised Captain America didn’t show up? He was in Wakanda during this time and I get Bucky was frozen but I was wondering if they would address where Cap was

I’m saving this to my notes. Don’t know what I’m going to do with it, but I just am. :salute:

Lol. Revisionist history at its finest!

Timbuktu was a hub for slave trade in its "finest hour". Europe had scores of Universities (most which still exist) when Timbuktu was an uninhabited dusty patch of dirt.

No wonder the Black Panther hype is out of this world, people believe this could be an actual reality.:crazy: :eek:lol::eek:lol::eek:lol:

I can deal with D4H making stupid calls in football but turning a comic book movie into a racist debate is it for me . I’ll enjoy never seeing your post again

One thing I don't do is argue with white supremacists about history.

By all means believe what you want to believe if it makes you feel better.

I'll teach my kids and family the TRUTH.

Soon as that hot junior gives you her number...amirite?
