Maryland Buying out Friedgen; Leach Leading Candidate

Anyone who hires Leach before he has his lawsuits settled is asking for trouble.

Haha. Vandy will be pissed they got Franklin now, they could've potentially got Leach

They could've pursued Leach. I'm pretty sure a school that promotes its academic standards doesn't want a looney piece of trash like Leach representing them.

Considering the other mentioned candidates, Maryland isn't reaching too far.

Firing Friedgen and hiring Mike Locksley is borderline retarded.

Yeah, nothing was stopping Vandy from going after Leach. Clay Travis was commenting on the radio this week that if Maryland forces Friedgen out now that Franklin is gone, then hires Malzahn or Leach, that he feels Vandy got hoodwinked or somehow tricked into hiring Franklin. I don't really see that at all. Malzahn was NEVER seriously considering Vanderbilt, and it appears that Vanderbilt was never seriously considering Leach.

Not really seeing how those dots connect.

They don't.

I'm not opposed to the Franklin hire as some others are. I certainly believe that he is better than Caldwell.

Keeping Herb Hand and bringing Ron Prince in would be a good a start.

And I thought Vandy had a landmark school of piracy.

Why are they firing him after having his best season in about five years??????

link or you just saying that because you dont like him?
You need a link to know that Leach has been unemployed for about a year now? There's been nothing stopping Vanderbilt, or anyone else with a job opening, from contacting Leach. Well, except that he's a litigious flake who's never won anything that matters.

Vandy said they were not considering Leach because his lawsuit was not settled.

Vandy is still same old Vandy. They think that they got a great guy, but in reality Maryland rued the day they named him coach in waiting, because they ultimately did not want him to replace Friedgen. If they did, they would have pushed him out sooner so they could put Franklin in his place. By waiting for Franklin to leave, they avoided paying him a guaranteed $1 million for waiting plus his salary and ultimately allowing an open pool of talent to apply and interview for the job.

RT @Scott_Schrader: Serra QB heard from Mike Leach last night. He will likely be Maryland's next head coach.

I hope Maryland has something equivalent to the Big Orange Caravan. Video of Gary Williams getting fed up with Leach's idiocy and choking him will be priceless.

Leach would be great for Vandy from an Academic standpoint.

"At Texas Tech, he had one of the highest graduation rates in the Big 12. From 2007-09, the Red Raiders had an average graduation rate of 76 percent.

Among Big 12 schools, only Nebraska (78 percent) and Baylor (77 percent) had better records. For further comparison, Texas and Oklahoma had graduation rates of 47 percent and 45 percent, respectively."

"In 1986, Leach earned a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Pepperdine University School of Law. Leach is also one of the most prominent graduates of the United States Sports Academy, from which he earned a Master's of Sports Science/Coaching in 1988."

Danny Ford was an Academic All American at Alabama. I guess Vandy should call him. Leach is a joke and an embarrassment waiting to happen.

Any good coach could be considered a "piece of trash" nowdays. You have to step on toes to get to the top. There's alot more negative said about Saban than other coach, and Meyer and Patrino are a close second.

Just don't understand why they fired Ralph. Maryland is overestimating their worth in football.

Re: Leach to the Terps?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wait a sec....What about all this Leach is toxic becuase of the lawsuit crap? Those Hancers are full or crap man......

Makes sense. You have a spread team in place, why not hire the best spread OC in the country.

Pros
Expect increased ticket sales, higher graduation rates, great support staff and asst coaches, regular Heisman pub for your QBs, multiple AT@T players of the week, increased exposure, wins and drama.

Cons
Of course he will drop the F-bomb in practice and games, he will not give many public speaking engagements, no twitter updates, might see him at a college bar a time or two, and he will occasionally shed a spoiled brat.

tough choice

I love watching people try to portray Leach as the second coming of Steve Spurrier instead of what he really is: A slightly better version of Hal Mumme.

I fully expected Leach to resurface at a MAC school. His style can go in to slightly-below average to average schools and make then an annual win team, but he'll never build a NC power.

Bit surprised Maryland or Under Armor wants him.
