Masters

I agree gavol, i hate the end of "tin cup" too. I have to give credit to angel though. Most guys would have thrown in the towl after starting the way he did.

I give him all the credit in the world for keeping it together and winning. The circumstances were amazing though.

Not going to lie, i thought for sure lefty was going to win today. However, when he missed the putt on 15 i knew it was over.

When the two guys you dismissed as having no chance end up in a playoff at the Masters, you're not "bailed out". :p

Well, to be honest, I was expecting a final round 75 or 77 or something like that from both Campbell and Perry. Talented players, to be sure, but they're just not guys who strike me as being totally comfortable on the biggest stage in golf. For 70 holes, Kenny Perry proved me wrong. I was pretty much convinced it was over after he stuffed it to a foot on 16; I mean, there's just no freakin' way he plays 17 and 18 at 2 over, right?

Wrong.

Yes, Cabrera had some luck on his side, but he also made some HUGE clutch putts down the stretch.

Finally: Perry's post-tournament interview was nothing but class. Hats off to him for one hell of an effort. As well as he continues to drive the ball, it seems to me that he's a threat in any major (the U.S. Open in particular) if he can just make a few putts.

If Phil actually swings through that 9-iron on 12 (or just hits a smooth 8, as Tiger did) instead of hitting a little three quarter punch, I'd say the odds would be better than 50:50 that he's wearing his third green jacket right now. Lost in this story is the fact that Phil turned in one of the all-time great front nines in Masters history today.

Final question to the group, stolen from the ESPN blog: is Angel Cabrera the "worst" multiple major winner in recent memory?

I kept telling my in laws that Phil would choke...and true to form he did. To be honest I didn't think Angel would hold things together like he did. I thought that Kenny P would win at -11. A few missed 10 footers cost him the Masters.

I don't see how any one could claim Phil's performance was a choke. He went for the win instead of safe shots a couple of times and it cost him. He shot a freaking 67 on Sunday at Augusta.

He missed two 6 footers for birdie on the back side in classic Phil fashion. When a professional golfer misses a six foot put, I call it a choke.

Okay so yesterday was the 1st day I had ever sat down and watched the Masters. Needless to say I was disappointed in who won.

Pros miss those putts every weekend on greens nowhere near as slick as those.

Someone that prides themselves on his short game shouldn't miss those putts. The fact that Phil has missed them so consistently over the years has earned the apt reputation as a choker. This is what seperates Tiger from the rest of the pros.

Apparently 17 and 18 at Augusta is what seperates Tiger from the rest of the pros...

So what was Woods doing in the rough and then bouncing it off a tree?

Phil has always been a masterful chipper and average putter, which is why Tiger is considered by most to have a better overall short game.

great point - if Mickleson choked then so did Woods.

His record in majors, and his putting under pressure have distinguished Tiger. It is why Micklechoke will always be an also ran.

Tiger had his chances but its hard to finish a round when your swing feels like crap. For him to get to 10 and not have looks on 17 and 18 was a surprise to me. He did know, just like Phil, that it would probably take 2 more birdies. Even though he said 11 was his number.
