I think the notion that he got a raise just because Tennessee and maybe others wanted to talk to him is pretty mislead.

Buyout #s haven’t been released so we’ll see how much this means at brass tax.

I think when the numbers come out it will in fact be what he could fetch elsewhere. Meaning that he must just really like Ames and isn’t interested in living for anything other likely a very specific job.
That would mean he just really likes Ames, if he gouge them to match the highest bidder?

You think it will be north of $6 million/year? Because Campbell could have gotten that elsewhere.

Imo it will be significantly less than what we and others were willing to pay. And that’s what would show he just likes it there and what he’s built.

We likely missed our chance. I think had we been throwing around the $6-$8 million/year at him in 2017, he’s in Knoxville. I don’t blame Currie, he wasn’t in that class then.

I'm still laughing at all of the ones here who still think it's only about the money for Campbell. He's basically building a program from scratch the way he want's it here. why go be another page in a history book some where else when he can author the book here. I think Campbell is just getting started with what ISU could be.

It's Iowa State. Love Coach Campbell, but if he stays at Iowa State what exactly do you think his legacy will be? He's not going to win a NC there.

Winningest coach in ISU history? Blah. Big 12 champs? Blah. Make the FBS playoff? Not likely. Retire comfortably? Absolutely.

You're right, it's not all about money. And no matter what he "builds from scratch", it won't scratch the surface of what coaches who win in the SEC achieve...and earn. Probably wise on his part to stay where he is. Rare to find a HC who knows where his ceiling is.

He may love it there, and you may be right that there are certain jobs he’s waiting on...but you’re kidding yourself a little if you think he didn’t have leverage and use it. It’s how things work.

I mean we were just outside looking in on that this season and have been considered dark horses the last few seasons. going into next year if we are only a one loss team and win the CCG we will be in most likely. the SEC is Bama and a bunch of also rans.

He will be at ISU one maybe two more years, he has the NFL in his future. He is everything they want in a head coach today and he has earned and deserves the opportunity. If he ever wants to move up his chance will come soon and he had better jump if that is his goal. One or two off seasons and that shine fades quick in the Pros eyes and that chance usually doesn't come again.

he's already turned down the NFL a few times. he enjoys the aspect of teaching young men into adults in the program and has said that aspect multiple times over the years. plus he is in complete control of the program at ISU, the NFL he is just a coach.

Double Jeopardy clue: This university has gotten 220 coaches raises in the last 13 years.

Who is The University of Tennessee?
or it's just a well deserved raise for the product he has been putting on the field, he did just win a NY6 bowl game after all.

Few think it’s only about the money. If it were he’d be gone before now.

But he did leave Toledo. Granted, he can in theory accomplish anything at ISU. Win the conference and you’re competing for a playoff spot. Not true at a G5.

But all coaches want to be able to retain their staff and compete in terms of budget. I assume that’s where most of the negotiations by Campbell focused on.

He is going to have to up his recruiting game....."It's not the X's AND O's it's the Jimmy and Joe's."
National recruiting rankings of 55, 46, 46, 59 over the last four years will catch up to you in the long run. Granted they all have to be coached no matter how they are ranked but eventually talent will either lead you there or let you down in the big games.

I agree 100%.
Coach worshipers will disagree. Any coach with better talent beats a great coach with lessor talent most of the time. The game is played on the field not between the ears of a man standing on the sideline.

You think he’s winning without talent? That’s nuts.

They have several AA. A few NFL guys. Most of their starters would start over our roster and whatever our recruiting rankings were.

They have talent. They don’t have recruiting titles. There is a difference when talking about a great staff. Most **** SEC coaches at mediocre programs come and go before anything has been built, so they can’t have one without the other- they have to buy their talent. Pruitt? Butch? Dickey? Lol. Even Lame Kiff largely doesn’t have jimmy and joes without buying/recruiting them.

He has some talent but he still has a low ceiling for success. He will never win a conference or national championship there.

I understand we can’t pull Campbell but maybe we could pull his DC?

I wanted Campbell too, but he obviously knows his place. Go back and look at other coaches we wanted over the past 2 decades and see how they have panned out.

I would be absolutely shocked if he went to the NFL. He doesn’t return their calls and it’s not his style.

Don't take it so personal...just joking around. I never said he didn't deserve it. He's did a heck of a job. He was near the top of my wish list.

It’s a combination of coaching and talent. If it were true that “any coach with better talent beats a great coach with lessor talent most of the time,” Pruitt would have won many more of the games he lost. There are very few HS players who just walk on the field and play at top 20 P5 level. They have to be developed, and coaches have to put them in a position to use their talent to its highest potential.

from the looks of it the only real information out about the extension is that there is an additional 3 million for the assistants

I think this late in his career Heacock is pretty well settled in with ISU. I am surprised no one has came poking around at him though, but Clemson did come to pick his brain a bit a few years ago.

and if the success at ISU continues under Campbell recruiting starts to get easier on that aspect as well. Eli Sanders(RB) and Tyler Moore(TE) both got ratings bumps up to 4 stars after committing to ISU. The more attention the program gets the better it will become.

Just keep it classy in here Cyclones. I am a UT alumni and have been living in Ames and working for ISU for the last 5 years. I brag to many on here about y’all’s fan base. Live up to the rep. Let’s all get together about the proper way to pronounce Nevada. And do what we can to get Prohm out of there.
