Maymon out indefinitely...

Sorry, my post was poorly written. I know Maymon has 1 year left. My hypothetical question is: as a fan, would you prefer Maymon this year in the Spring and the team has a chance to have a "great" year? Or, with Stokes possibly leaving, would you take two "good" years, knowing that if Maymon took a RS, he would play in 2013-2014?

When I said "two good years" above, I meant our team. Let's face it, if Maymon is healthy with Stokes, this team could be special. However, that changes if Maymon is out. Then, Maymon would play with Golden and Hubbs if he sat out a year. Now, if Stokes stays and Maymon takes a RS, then 2013-2014 could be special.

I addressed this before, IMO alot depends on where you are when he can return I think...

If the season isn't going well and youre likely going to miss the tourney...I redshirt him.

If the season is going ok, looks like well make the dance, probably a 8-10 seed and be one and done...that's a toss up

If the season is going great, we're a top 20 team and on our way to being a 7 seed or better...I bring him back

I've also been in the club that's about 80% Jarnell returns, depending on what you believe that also may effect your decision on whether to bring him back or not.

Personally, I'm in the boat of redshirt him and stokes returns...this deep would have a legitimate chance at a final four next year with that group.

Q played the 4 over in Europe alot and reports were he was fine...like I've said, I'm not saying he will succeed or fail...I just think too many people are automatically bypassing him because of his size, and I don't think that's necessary.

Will he get beat sometimes against bigger 4's? Absolutely. Does Mcbee get beat sometimes against quicker 2's? Absolutely. However CCM has shown if you're giving your all on both ends and contributing you'll still play, so why are we assuming the treatment will be different for Q?

I'm also not saying he's a 25 minute guy at the 4, he's versatile and a lot could depend on the opponents roster. I could see him getting 15 minutes at the 4, and 10 at the 3...but I feel confident in saying he's gonna see the floor for good minutes, he's a CCM type of guy.

I was simply addressing the question of why Martin talked highly of Q. Martin talked highly of Woolridge and Washpun last year and neither produced. Martin tends to talk his guys up to the media, not in a boastful way but he points out strengths as he sees them. Not saying I don't think Q will play. I think he brings a certain versatility that CCM likes.

Yea I agree.

Sometimes i wish coaches would shoot straight haha.

"well, yes about Washpun. Weve realize he can't dribble, or shoot, or pass...but he sure can jump. Probably won't be here next season, likely hell transfer out" haha

Woolridge would be "he's a really talented ball player for a rapper"

Martin never talked about Woolridge and Washpun the way he talks about Q.
Someone asked him about Q in an interview a couple of days ago and I thought he was going to write a book.
No comparison to the way he talks about other players.

He gushes about everyone when he is asked about them specifically. He went on about Washpun last year all pre-season.

You also have to consider Maymon's wishes, he may not want to stay another yr and want to play this one even if it is a shortened season.

Absolutely.

I'd be shocked if he pushed to play the last month or two. As it sits he's undrafted to late 2nd round at best, if he plays the final month or two he's dropping.

If he wants to raise his stock like he'd hoped to do this year, then he'll likely want to return.

I love Maymon and he may end up working his way into the nba but he could play here the next fifty years and would never be able to be more than a 2nd round pick at best.

Why wouldn't Maymon want to return? That's an extra year of free school that he could use to work on his masters or something?

I agree, but right now he's a late 2nd round to undrafted projection...if he comes back for just a month, I don't see that projection being raised.

However, I do think if he opted to redshirt and continue to improve that perimeter shot, his chances of being a 2nd round guarantee would be much better than playing just one month this year.

Why would u want to be a 2nd round pick.....it is the same as not being drafted besides getting to pick which team he tries to make it on as an undrafted free agent which is a plus.

Yes if that is where his interests are but he may want to go on overseas and start making good money to play basketball.

Look at how many guys were drafted round 2 and made a team verse how many went undrafted and made a team...if you're good enough to earn a 2nd round grade you're usually good enough to make a team in the league.

That's a bad comparison, obviously the better rated players are going to be drafted higher and have a better chance, unless you think by coming back next season Maymon will get exponentially better than being undrafted is the better option bc he can pick and choose his better option. Wayns is just one example of a guy that did that....he came to a team desperate for a back up PG.

Yea that's basically what I'm saying...I think a Maymon with a full offseason to improve his shot, body and all around game would be better than a Maymon who hasn't practiced much since last year and would get to come in and play for a month.

It would be a tough decision for sure. Other factor which could weigh against the red-shirt would be age. Jeronne will be 22 in March and tacking on a red-shirt year would get him to 23. I know that's young for me, but when you consider most of the guys with whom he'd be competing for draft spots would be 19 or 20, that extra year likely would count against him.

He will have to get back in shape.....workout but he can do that without coming back.....I really think he is who is going to be and wont improve his over all game that much more.

Agree to an extent, but Martin really wanted him to have a consistent 3 point shot this year, from everything ive heard he has barely been able to work on that...

I think if he was able to work on it and be a threat from outside it'd really help his NBA chances.

read a blurb on the gq that said a potential target date for Maymons return is Dec 21 against Western Carolina. I don't know how accurate that would be but it kinda fits into the timeline when he would get back.

That would be the best case scenario, I think. Hopefully he can make it back even sooner.

The infection has lingered longer than expected; until it is completely eliminated, anticipated return dates are meaningless.

Coach Martin is the only good source for an expected return date. Right now per Quinn, CCM has no idea. "I couldn't tell you to be honest with you." (11/06/12)
