Maymon out indefinitely...

The thought of having Maymon next year with Golden, Stokes, Hubbs, and Nichols as the starters to go along with a deep, experienced bench is scary good. Unfortunately, that's not going to happen. Maymon is a tough kid and will be fine... I imagine we'll ease him back in by December, and he'll be full strength for the start of league play. I think this year's team can and will make a serious run. Maymon and Stokes as a frontcourt might be the best in college basketball, and I think Golden will have a monster year as well. If we can get consistent production on the perimeter from Mcbee, Mcrae, and Richardson look out, this team can play with anybody. Damn, I'm excited for basketball.

I think that Stokes having to carry the load in the front court early in the season can only make this team better down the stretch. When we get to full strength, watch out. I still think we will win the vast majority of our games without Maymon and hopefully Hall finally steps up and asserts himself.

Side note: Lady Vols land a Mercedes, and not an E class... NBA is on... Hallelujah!

According to TOS:

On the court the biggest question facing the team is when will Jeronne Maymon return from a troublesome knee that's required two surgeries over the offseason. Maymon suffered what Cuonzo Martin termed a 'setback' with the knee a week into preseason practice and according to the head coach will miss the first game.

From what we've been able to gather the 'setback' was not additional structural damage or anything that will require more arthroscopic surgery, which we speculated might be the case next week. Getting him back by towards the latter part of November seems entirely reasonable from what we've heard.

Like I said. No one push the panic button yet. Surgery was speculative at the most.

Like I've been saying, regardless of surgery, it'll probably be December before we see him, and maybe January before he's 100%.

Did anyone see the Quinn article about maymon, apparently there was rumors it wasn't injury related but character or team rules violation related....Martin was quick to shoot those down.

January is when we need him on the court 100%. The sooner the better, but lets not rush it. I think he'll be back around the first week of december at the latest.

Prolly be the 3rd or 4th game, though. No sources, just my opinion

A la B. Williams' "injury" at the end of his senior season?

That was an odd story. I'm on all these boards and I'd never seen any rumors about character or rules violations. Almost appeared to be pre-emptive, though I'm not sure why you'd raise an issue that was nowhere to be seen.

Yea it was very odd to say the least.

Rumor is that there is no structural damage at all in the knee as mentioned above. Maymon is having issues with infection. Once that is under control, then he is good to go.

Lewis saying there's some hope he can return in puerto rico, would he great.

Damn, I hope so. I know it's a new year and everyone got another year in the system under their belt, but when Maymon went out for good last year in the NIT, you could see a huge difference in how the team played. I know Hall wasn't availble at the time, but I think this team needs Maymon's leadership on the floor and not on the sidelines. I'd hate to have to drop a game or two that we should win with him being out.

Hall being available tonight is what I think makes tonight's game more interesting. Should be interesting to see if he has shown a renewed focus on his game to fill the slot.

Completely selfish thinking on my part, but him getting a medical redshirt would give us another year to land a post recruit haha.

I kid...sort of.

No you are spot on. I personally think that is where Maymons situation is heading. I think ultimately he is going to redshirt. Now he might not but it seems to be trending that way.
I kid...sort of.

Trust me you aren't alone in thinking this. Dont think he'll be out that long but if he is redshirt him and give him three years in CCM's system.

BTO, article on govolsxtra.com says he was seen on crutches, have you heard anything?

Yea he was on crutches, putting no weight on it and being very cautious with his movements.

If its an infection and simple as that, I do wonder why CCM won't just release the details and timetable on it.

bTo I believe if he is on crutches its going to be hard to get him back this season. Don't know why its such a secret. But I would say if he is on crutches right now he won't pls this season
