Maymon out indefinitely...

bTo I believe if he is on crutches its going to be hard to get him back this season. Don't know why its such a secret. But I would say if he is on crutches right now he won't pls this season

You can come back from an infection. That's why he's on crutches. Doesn't want to have anything happen and cause further infection. The crutches are just to make sure he's not walking on it.

Exactly.

My bigger concern, if it truly is only an infection, is playing condition...if its late December before he can put weight on the knee...it's gonna take a few weeks to get him into game shape.

This isn't a oh he's healed he's ready to go type of deal, he's gonna have to get back into game shape.

Depending on the infection, it can be pretty serious stuff and drag on for a long time. It wouldn't surprise me if he ends up redshirting. With the AN news, that could be win win though.

Would do you think the lineup will be if he doesn't get RS? If Q plays like he did last night, I would like Golden, Hubbs, McRae, Q, Stokes lineup.

In limited doses while facing smaller teams, that would be okay, but Q just doesn't have the bulk to play interior D, at least the way it appears Cuonzo wants it played.

I just received a text that has some pretty disapointing news. I'm not one to put information out in the open, or do I believe everything I hear, but he he may end up having to redshirt. Honestly, I don't think anyone knows at this point, but I'm not nearly as optimistic as I was an hour ago.

Well what was the news?

Then why does Martin continue to say Q is a 4 defensively?

If I had to guess, Chievous is pretty tough, which would help offset on the size disadvantage some, but on the other hand, he probably lacks the lateral quickness to guard the 2 or 3 spot consistently.

That makes him an undersized 4. Didn't say he wouldn't play at all, but just not in large doses.

Well what was the news?

I don't know a whole lot on the situation other than some stuff that a few of my friends know about it. I'll just say that his timetable will be more than 3-4 weeks, according to them. I guess we'll all find out together within the next week or two. It's nothing groundbreaking, people get infections. I don't believe everything that I hear, so I'll still hold out hope that it's still a 3-4 week recovery. I wouldn't completely rule that out either.

Well I think everyone on this board is tuned to the fact that a redshirt year for Maymon is entirely possible and may be probable. I guess we will just have to see.

saw him today! he was using a singular crutch and was moving gingerly to say the least! i would be shocked to see him being able to play by early december at the level he is capable of

I guess the question is would you want him back in the spring and make a big push toward the top of the SEC, with the possibility that Stokes leaves? Or would you want him to redshirt and possibly have two good (but not great) years?

They have to do what's best for him, and no one has any control over it. But, it is a hypothetical question.

Volgee he only has 1 year of eligibility left. He does have the redshirt year he can utilize. Its whatever is best for him. We still have the big fella Stokes who can lead us to great things. Go Vols

Sorry, my post was poorly written. I know Maymon has 1 year left. My hypothetical question is: as a fan, would you prefer Maymon this year in the Spring and the team has a chance to have a "great" year? Or, with Stokes possibly leaving, would you take two "good" years, knowing that if Maymon took a RS, he would play in 2013-2014?

When I said "two good years" above, I meant our team. Let's face it, if Maymon is healthy with Stokes, this team could be special. However, that changes if Maymon is out. Then, Maymon would play with Golden and Hubbs if he sat out a year. Now, if Stokes stays and Maymon takes a RS, then 2013-2014 could be special.

Ever since I heard about the infection, I've been wondering if he got MRSA in his knee. It can be dangerous, next to impossible to get rid of, and a not uncommon complication after surgery. . Pure speculation on my part though. I have no info to back that up.

That is reason for pause. Hope that isn't the case, but whatever the reason, hope the young man has a complete recovery. There are more important things that basketball.

I was very cautious this entire time about the injury, many others jumped and said he will miss a game or two...if that's the case Martin would address it in detail.

I've said all along I'd be surprised if its before December or web January, looking like that was accurate, or that it may be even longer.

Because Martin talks up his guys. Remember how upbeat he was about Washpun in pre-season last year?

Q played the 4 over in Europe alot and reports were he was fine...like I've said, I'm not saying he will succeed or fail...I just think too many people are automatically bypassing him because of his size, and I don't think that's necessary.

Will he get beat sometimes against bigger 4's? Absolutely. Does Mcbee get beat sometimes against quicker 2's? Absolutely. However CCM has shown if you're giving your all on both ends and contributing you'll still play, so why are we assuming the treatment will be different for Q?

I'm also not saying he's a 25 minute guy at the 4, he's versatile and a lot could depend on the opponents roster. I could see him getting 15 minutes at the 4, and 10 at the 3...but I feel confident in saying he's gonna see the floor for good minutes, he's a CCM type of guy.
