Mcbee's fight...

My god, I forgot how stupid those commentators made themselves look. When McBee got that flagrant 1 in the first half, they kept saying it was a "textbook definition," but it was just a regular foul to stop the easy layup. He made a play for the ball, and fouled the guy on the arm. It was nothing more than that.

Wait. What?!? You're telling me McBee was going for the ball when he was given a Flagrant 1 foul? Seriously?

It was pretty obvious to me...I've seen McBee do that foul a thousand times. It looked like he went to poke the ball with his left had, he missed and fouled the guy on his left arm. Then, the guy brought the ball from his left to his right side. McBee went for the ball again, and since he was still behind him, he missed and fouled the guy on the arm. That was it. Nothing above the shoulders, no push in the back, just the usual foul that McBee gives when a player has an uncontested path to the basket.

It was a clear grab of the arms in the replay on TV.

The refs got the right call in the end. No one swung at anybody. It was just two kids hustling and trying to come up with the ball. Momentum from Blackmon going one way and McBee another. You gotta think, when you are fighting for a ball like that your swinging your body and hands to try and break it loose from the other player hints why McBee spun around after he won it. That's why It looked like Blackmon through punches in slow motion. They were not intentional, just momentum carrying his arms and hands when they came loose from the ball. think about it. It's physics. Great effort by both squads and good call by refs. GO VOLS!!

That was a textbook flagrant 1. He didn't make an attempt at the ball. Just pulled on the guy.

His left hand pulled the guy, his right hand ended up infront of the guy next to the ball. So I guess flagrant 1 on his left hand, clean foul on his right. Good thing his left didn't get a flagrant 2.

It was clear he was just trying to stop the layup. If he made an attempt at the ball then that was a sorry attempt and he deserved the flagrant anyway.

I've never seen a close handed fist fly towards a persons head when they were pulling on a ball at their midsection.

Oh I agree, his left hand pulled the guy first. His right hand made an attempt, if he only used his right hand it wouldn't have been called

Dumb question...

So I agree with the mcbee flagrant 1 call because e wasn't going for the ball.

BUT

Why late in the game when Cam crossed up Blackman I believe it was he just reached and grabbed cam after cam was already by him. Clearly not going for the ball. Shouldn't that be a flagrant 1?

i know we've all had our share of McBee hate of the last couple of seasons but man has he stepped up lately. I love the sharp shooter walk on story. I'm looking forward to watching him in his senior year.

Glad to see many are wanting on the bandwagon now.

I think it would have to impede a fast break or something. Its something to that affect

How are you guys saying he wasn't going for the ball? All the contact was made on the guy's arms and hands....because McBee was going for the ball.

Out of curiosity were you there?

I dont know what the tv showed by from in person it was obvious he was going 2 hands from behind with no intent on the ball. If he and close to the ball it was pure luck, but he was literally going 2 hands and trying to wrap up.

Correct call.

Your question reminded me of the 2006 home game against UK. The UT player stole the ball at midcourt very late in the game, and the UK player just reached out and grabbed him to avoid an undefended lay-up. No intentional foul was called. Instead, it was just a simple non-shooting personal foul. Had they awarded two shots and the ball, we probably would have won and swept them that year.

McBee was scrappier than you think . If you watch him off ball defense he elbowed a guy who tried to pick him. Shouldered another guy. My favorite was the forearm to back of the guy while going up for the the shot yet Cam got flagged for the foul. He is scrappy on D and and is getting his shots to fall hope he has an all Sec senior year.

I pulled up the replay on ESPN3 to review both the McBee fouls. The first one was not a flagrant 1. He was making a move for the ball, he didn't swing his elbows above shoulder level, and he didn't push the guy in the back. It was just a foul to stop the dunk/layup. Pull up the replay on ESPN3 and judge for yourselves.

If McBee is trying to make a play on the ball, and the driver is directly in front of him, he obviously has a better chance of hitting the guy on the hand or arm. Pull up the replay and explain to me how McBee did any of the following criteria that constitutes a flagrant 1:
1. Did not make a play on the ball
2. Swung elbows above shoulder level
3. Pushed opponent in back

Ill agee Mcbee has gotten better because he should have gotten better playing with and against more talented players. But i do not agree with the clutch three statement because one game he may go 3 out of 4 from three point range but i saw alot of games where he went 0 fer and had zero points.I also believe that he should give 110% on defense and should not care about those people who make fun of him by saying he is too slow looks like slow white boy on defense.whether he scores another point at UT i want to see him become A Tennessee version of former laker kurt rambis and get to all the loose balls and make the other players remember he was there.Everyone i know says if he had not hit the three against kansas a couple seasons ago that he would be another tyler summit and never leave the bench.I admire McBEE because he could have went to a smaller school and been the man but he followed his dream and walked on at UT.IF I HAD ONE WISH FOR sKYLER I WOULD WISH HE COULD PLAY DEFENSE AS GOOD AS I DID 2O YEARS AGO. HE WOULD PROBALLY MAKE ALL DEFENSE TEAM.
