Who knew all it took would be to threaten our coach and his family.

I know the thread was in jest but until this year his recruiting was pretty subpar at school where you throw a rock from the office window and hit 4* athlete. He would be absolutely atrocious at a school like TN where the recruiting base isn’t as strong.

Would you go play for a guy who looks like this?

Wow. This guy becomes more like Butch everyday.

Florida, please hang onto him through 2018. We don't need competition from you while looking for our next coach.

This is honestly not surprising if found to be untrue. There have been too many issues to count while he has been in Gainesville. This is not going to go away and he has embarrassed the school. UF might take this opportunity to cut ties with cause.

I think there is a very good chance that UF is going to do that. It was an incredibly stupid thing to say if you don't have some basis for it. Even if he was just relaying a player's offhand comment, you have to give that information to your university and then they can say 'we take this seriously and we are investigating the matter'.

Could be.

The problem is that, when you throw something like that out there, people are going to sit up and take notice. And you've implied that the entire fan base has unrealistic expectations and that some number of them are completely unhinged, making death threats.

That is a serious claim to make. Its not, "wow, these fans are really expecting a lot!" That's saying there are loon criminals amongst your team's fan base.

Its embarrassing to the entire fan base when he says that. And so it better be for real. And you better be able to show its real.

This is a pretty big turning point I think for him as coach. Your slide into oblivion with Butch Jones has been a slow one. But between the Will Grier fiasco, the suspended players for fraud, and the fact that the offense is not improving at all now several years into it, I think this is one of those situations where MacElwain is fast tracking his departure.

I think every fan base has it's Harvey Updike types. So, it's not exactly a great stretch of the imagination to believe someone could/would make threats. Especially given today's (somewhat) anonymity of the internet.

Having said that to say this, you are entirely correct he needs to back that up with proof. Like ironclad direct threat type of proof that investigators can follow up. He's slitting his own throat if he doesn't.

His actions suggest he's attempting to find a way out.

He got to know he's done after 2018 regardless.

This is pathetic...it's f'n football. If someone's life revolves around what college athletes do on a Saturday night then they need to re-evaluate their life.

He could be lying...

He made some comments today which make it seem like he's trying to walk it back

True but we all know there are plenty of "Fans" out there who go to extreme lengths. Hell I about got in a fight the other day while at lunch during the Bama game because a Bammer got mad at me for yelling "Finally a TD" on the Tennessee Pick 6. Guy was even an employee, said they didn't like Tennessee fans in there. He's lucky he still has a job

When you have idiot fans poisoning trees, how long till someone actually attempts to kill a coach. Heck some Bama fans have shot relatives over loses.

I keep seeing this story pop up now with people doubting if it's true

Would be hilarious if proven false and that gets him fired

He's proven he doesn't take criticism and being questioned by the media well maybe he did try to use a fake excuse for bad play
