McElwain to be next Florida coach (merged)

The same GSU team that went 9-3 and won the Sun Belt this year, their 1st season in the conference I might add.

The 2007 ULM team out of the Sun Belt that beat Bama and Saban wasn't even the conference champ, and went 6-6 that year.

Regardless, here's hoping McElwain has no such growing pains; unlike Muschamp, he comes in with head coaching experience, so I think it'll be a smoother transition for him.

:eek:k: Actually SEC rules ruined that rivalry game; back in the '90's the conference mandated a certain number of home games for all SEC teams, and another home 'n' home with an in-state rival just wasn't feasible.

But even if it was, why should we handicap ourselves further by playing yet another OOC foe that would be a tougher matchup than most other SEC teams' tune-ups or OOC opponents?

Our schedule is typically Top 5-10 anyway, and is often the toughest in the SEC; so we have nothing to gain or prove in the strength of schedule world.

When was the last time your schedule was toughest in SEC?

Watching his presser intro now. He is a real goof ball. Right... Right K. K

His presser was a little strange to me. While I liked his comment about having a "mut" personality and the typical coach speak about evaluating talent, academics, relationships, etc I thought he came off a little odd. Talking about "red carpet" and his body language came off a little weird to me.

Time will tell on his ability to recruit and coach at Florida but when I compare his presser, to say CBJ, he is not impressive.

Who gives a damn about a press conference? Most people thought Dooley nailed his presser.

Just making an observation, relax dude! Sounds like a stereotypical person from the north who never learned manners!

In 2012 it wasn't just the toughest in the SEC, it was the toughest in the nation.

Here are the national SOS rankings for UF and UT over the last decade by both the NCAA method and the Sagarin method. UF in blue, UT in orange.

- - - - - NCAA - - - - - - Sagarin
2005 - #14 - #27 - - #32 - #40
2006 - #1 - #10 - - #4 - #8
2007 - #3 - #12 - - #3 - #9
2008 - #2 - #68 - - #4 - #31
2009 - #6 - #37 - - #15 - #21
2010 - #21 - #67 - - #21 - #43
2011 - #6 - #30 - - #12 - #22
2012 - #1 - #29 - - #4 - #56
2013 - #1 - #14 - - #10 - #19
2014 - #6 - #19 - - #7 - #9
UF 10-year average NCAA SOS #12.4 - UT 10-year average NCAA SOS #25
UF 10-year average Sagarin SOS #14.5 - UT 10-year average Sagarin SOS #22.5

Look how far apart the 2 teams' schedules are in 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2012; UF's are much tougher. The only year where UT has a significant difference that great is 2011.

So, it looks to me like no matter which formula you use Vols fans have no room to criticize UF's strength of schedule, and should actually be looking to bolster their own schedules.

You make some cogent points, and I am not one that tends to criticize strength of schedule in Florida's case.

There are some interesting points to be made here in regards to trends. Looking at a ten year span, Florida has had the tougher schedule 6 times (60%). Looking at the last five years, UT has had the tougher schedule 60% of the time.

When a university is a member if the best conference in college football, that team will play a tough schedule period.

The same GSU team that went 9-3 and won the Sun Belt this year, their 1st season in the conference I might add.

You seriously believe that don't you? Bless your little alligator heart

2012.

And if the east didn't stink, 2013, 2014....

Two 4 star recruits just decommitted. One of them is a QB

They now have zero 4 star commitments

Lol

A spread Qb from Cali who was attached to Roper.

A jumbo Ath from OH without a true position.

Crazy if you don't believe both were told to explored options.

CJM said at presser he starting contacting recruits and commits Fri then all of sudden these two long time commits decide to decommit.

BUT I guess the Vols are the only staff who can tell committed players to look elsewhere.

Lol

You going to cut your remaining seven 3 star recruits too? Congrats on your 95th ranked recruiting class I guess. In case you haven't noticed, you are going the wrong way

2012.

And if the east didn't stink, 2013, 2014....

2012 is a maybe considering you played #5, #8, #23 ranked in east and #6 & #14 in west. Also played #10 Florida state.

We played #5, #8, #9, #23 in east and #1 in west. I'll give you 2012.

2013 is a no contest that Tennessee played the toughest schedule in country with #6 Oregon, #2 auburn, #7 Bama, #5 Missouri, #4 USC and #24 Vandy.

You did play the same east opponents and #1 Florida state but your west opponents were unranked Arkansas and #14 LSU.

2014 is very comparable.
