McRae going PRO?

I don't think he will get a good enough evaluation to try for the NBA Draft. if he wants to play in a foreign country that might be a possibility.

Sure it could, but not at 10 of 14 schools in the SEC. His point was next year is a make or break year for CCM, and the decisions of those two players greatly affect that. Probably not the case for Grant, though if they fall on their face next year, his seat is likely warm. Only Mark Fox, Tony Barbee, and Frank Haith (more for NCAA reasons than on-court production) are on shakier ground than Martin based on next season's results. Martin should have more talent at his disposal than any of them if Stokes and McRae return. If they don't, I'm not sure he gets more than one more season (his 4th) to make something happen of relevance in the postseason.

Since nobody in their right mind will be expecting the competition for the SEC to involve any teams other than Kentucky and Florida, all CCM has to do is make sure that his team gets into the tournament next season. If he does that, he keeps his job.

Agree. Stokes and McRae staying go a long way towards making that a happen. They bolt and it gets iffy.

Wish Stokes and McRae were not flirting but Golden was. The quicker Golden goes and plays in Turkey, the better.

I agree he's not the best PG at times but geez give him a break. He was thrown in at the PG spot and told to run the team and he'd never done it before. Somebody playing in this high of competition having never played the position he's done better than expected.

I agree with that...however the OP was basically criticizing Martin for not being up stokes and McRae's a$$ since the season ended and I don't get that. It's common for the coaches to attend the final four, most do, Martin was doing what's a common practice yet is being criticized for it because he has some guys on his team considering going pro.

Hahaha have you read what some of these people post...if Martin doesn't win the SEC next year outright there will be a few calling for his head.

We'd be in a bad spot if Golden just up and left, he may not be the best but he's about all we've got. Funny thing is there's a lot of teams that'd take a 3 year starter, senior PG on their team in a heartbeat.

Don't get me wrong. I don't disagree with the way it has been handled. It was set to be addressed this week all along. Most coaches handle it in a similar manner.

I'm not convinced that Tennessee would not be better off without Golden, just as I was not convinced that KU would not have been better off this year without Elijah Johnson. It seemed to KU that the only option was Johnson, but I think that Tharpe gave KU better minutes at point every single time he was in the game. You do not necessarily need a scorer at point. You need a guy that can penetrate and has the mentality to penetrate, but not necessarily the mentality of a shooter. Further, when that guy has a mentality that is all over the f-ing place (Golden, Johnson) you end up with a guy who ends up making boneheaded decisions that cost you games.

I think it would behoove Martin to experiment with starting Lopez or Moore at point and moving Golden to the wing.

Personally I thought Lopez and Moore were given enough opportunity to show what they were capable of. Lopez for his size is too slow to keep guys in front of him on defense. And doesnt create enough plays on offense to justify PT. Moore just doesnt have the handles to play the point. Not to mention, the slower pg's in the league would blow past him.

Were the games that golden missed which we lost this year not convincing enough?

We tried the Lopez and Moore experiment, did you miss those games, they are easily forgettable.

Siva v Burke in the final. It's a pg game. Intensity, attitude, effort, leadership...and we won't win until we have a pg that consistently plays ball and has those qualities.

+1

I think if McRae continues to run more point and really work at it during the summer, he has potential to be a great.

It should be a no brainer for McRae to come back. He's already projected as a 1st round pick for 2014. He would really be hurting himself by leaving early.

Who has him projected in the first round in 2014? Everything I've seen is late second round.
