SS DE/hybrid DL, like Tyler Baron sans Tyler Barontude. The Scout
When you look at Smith, he is not a defensive lineman who is going to blow you away with his size. The three-star prospect measures in around 6-2, 265 pounds, but he has room to continue to add to his frame over time, and his Head Coach at St. Frances believes the potential is endless for Smith because of his natural athleticism.
“He came in as an extremely athletic, strong, explosive guy. “St. Frances Academy Head Coach Messay Hailemariam told Volquest. “He played running back and could easily because he has such great feet and is such a great athlete. We knew ultimately, he might end up putting his hand in the dirt, but he had to go through the process himself. He had a lot of guys with him, in terms of the national guys, that taught him. As far as the talent level, he is kind of pushing toward his best right now and is ready to show the world what he is about.”
The potential Hailemariam sees for Smith is high, as he believes he has all of the tools to succeed at the next level and beyond.
“Barring anything unforeseen, he is one of the best, if not the best that has played for us,” the Head Coach said. “He is unblockable. Nothing can compare to this, we knew he was athletic and as strong as a guy like Aaron Donald. That is what we told him to watch and compare to. First of all, he didn’t want to play d-line, but he is now loving the craft and committed to it, and we think each year, he is getting better and his best years are ahead of him.”
What does this mean for the defensive line room?
Smith possesses plenty of upside as a disruptor at this stage in his career. He will undoubtedly need to add weight and continue to develop to become a three-down defender for Tennessee at the SEC, but he is a nice addition given his upsides, when you add him to the 2025 class, along with the guys you already have committed like Charles House, Ethan Utley, and Mariyon Dye. Smith has been a long-time target Rodney Garner has kept his eye on, and he plays against some of the top competition in the country and should come to college with a full understanding of what the expectations are to compete and perform at a high level. He is a nice addition to what Tennessee is building up front.

That’s quite an endorsement from a highly successful head coach who churns out multiple D1 players each year. The Scout
