'21 MD DT KaTron Evans (JSU commit)

My impression the kid had one foot in and one foot out and the staff wanted a player with commitment. He was recovering from surgery, maybe out of shape, wouldn't have contributed this year. They called his bluff. This has Rodney Garner written all over it. I trust Rodney Garner to make the right decision here.

I don’t have a clue if Heupel will work out long term but maybe, just maybe, he’s wanting certain types of players for his system that isn’t a good fit for Evans?

You made it seem like Heupel and the coaching staff are idiots for this decision but you don’t know what happened behind the scenes.

Heupel has only been here for like 4 months now and is already being blamed for something that might have been for the better.

Thank you, this is much more along the lines of discussion I was hoping for.

No doubt. Heup is big on buy-in. I totally get that. He should understand though that these kids have spent the last 3 years of their lives developing a decision that they thought would be the stepping stones to their future dreams, only to have possibly the largest factor in that decision yanked from under their feet right at the time of decision making.

I think what I was trying to get at is that heup is making a calculated risk that Id rather see our coach not take, at least until he has recruited a top 5 class and won football games here. It would speak much more volume to him as a coach and relationship developer if he were to get the on the fence kids to stay and give him a year, and have them be bought in and productive by the end of it than to cut them loose (especially the high caliber athletes). My pitch would be “neither party here is responsible for what happened (besides administration which they can’t change), but together they could get past any previous and current obstacles. At the end of the day, it’s the players and coaches that are the product on the field. So give me and my guys 1 year of your very best, and we’ll do the same, and let’s see if we can make something special, and if by the end of it you don’t want to stay, we’ll let you transfer immediately to any school you want. Is something like that not more of the kind of message an 18 year old and future recruits who, despite the attention and recognition they’ve received, is not yet a professional would like to hear? Rather than, hey someone (not you) paid me to come here and I’m the coach so get with it or get out? If that’s what I heard, I’d be out real quick. Because if they don’t care about me, all i have to go off is their coaching ability, and few on our staff have the kind of reputation that could back that up (except maybe Gardner).

Do not know what is going on, but maybe this kid was promised something that we would not be able to do anymore. If so, and he has made a decision to move on then who can blame him? Nothing disrupts the team chemistry more than when certain players think they are bigger than the team. I say the same for Toto and Crouch. Needless to say, I am tired of players who think they are privileged.

This is Heupel’s team now and if you have conditions that are contrary to that, then good luck. I do not remember people criticizing Pruitt for losing any of the players when Butch left.

This is all well and good, but remember why we're here with a new coach and new AD in the first place.

I'm much more inclined to believe this kid, being highly rated, was getting the McDonald's bag treatment and that was coming to a stop. And I'm sure he's looking for his next "meal".

This ^^^

New sheriff in town and that has been his historical MO. You are either in or out with CRG and that requires 100% commitment.

What if, as our investigation continues, he was one of the recruits being given improper benefits?

If so he would likely be summarily dismissed to appease the NCAA.

Just asking here.

I would love to see even a shred of evidence for this.
Seriously? How about 4 failed head coaches and 6 failed Athletic Directors since 2008. Chancellors-We've got booger eater Cheek, Crazy cat lady Davenport who was fired for incompetence, and currenty Donde Plowman, the chancellor that signed off on the bonehead Pruitt extension and then tried to sneak an extension in for Fulmer without the media finding out. All leading to another lackluster AD hire in Danny White and ANOTHER subsequent lackluster HC hire with a history of mediocre recruiting and team improvement. What part of that says commitment to winning in the SEC?

How is Danny White a lackluster hire?

The dude has hired 1 successful coach in his life and Frost current has an 11-20 record now that he is at a big boy program. He brought his last coach after he couldn't manage to make a successful hire here....a coach whose record has steadily declined as Frosts players leave. A coach that has recruited a total of 9 4-star recruits and 0 5-star recruits in his lifetime. Winning SEC programs beat that in a season.

Heupel hasn’t even coached one full season here. Danny White was a top notch AD hire. You just don’t like White or Heupel. You are one of those posters who like to have that I told you so moments.

I'm confused....are you disagreeing or you know i'm right and just don't like to be told I told you so?

He has hired Lance Leipold, Scott Frost, Bobby Hurley, Nate Oats.

What on earth are you talking about?

Literally hasn't had a bad hire in any sport

Somebody is full of sh^t. If you bothered to look at his 6-4 record, you would see that he had at least 10 players opt out of the season due to covid concerns and two of those loses were by two or less points. But by all means, spin it anyway you want to.

Don’t waste your time. The guy is a looney.

🤣🤣🤣🤣 Talk about seriously terrible takes! Embarrassing.

Evans got exactly what he asked for. If you tell UT you want to leave, then shop around and find out you're not as popular as you thought you were, the door isn't always open for your return.
Can't say I wouldn't let him back in the boat. I'm disappointed he acted the way he did, jumping ship like that, but we could use him on the DL in the future.
