Yep, because as good as any LB is, they can only "spy"/cover for so long, and then eventually someone is open. You can mask deficiencies at the LB and secondary levels by only giving the play 2-3 seconds to develop. This is so critical in the SEC.

I feel like you stopped watching halfway through last season. I also think you fundamentally misunderstand the scheme. For the record, we were 5th in the conference in sacks, and only Florida was significantly better. I've expressed some concern about not having a pass rusher who will consistently demand a double team, but I think we have that in Dylan Brooks. More importantly, Pruitt and Ansley will blitz from everywhere. We had 16 players credited with at least half a sack, so it's not as important to have a single great pass rusher.

Yeah, but D Brooks won't play until 2021 and he will be a Freshman. I'm sort of talking about this past year and this upcoming year. Which DL do we have on our team that demands a specific game plan for from the opposing OC? None really, especially with D Taylor gone. Hopefully we can continue to remedy this with recruiting!

Oh, I don't disagree with that specific point. I have expressed that concern multiple times on here. I just don't think it's that big of a deal with the way the defense operates. Kivon Bennet, Deandre Johnson, and Roman Harrison all showed some flashes last year. I'm still not sure what the staff wants to do with Crouch, but I know they saw serious potential for him as a pass rusher as well. Then there's Morven Joseph and Tyler Baron. Someone will step up.

Its going to improve. But its one of those things I won't believe until I see it... I want to see us start to make FL's QB look like the worst in the SEC instead of Heisman each year.

i think in terms of traditional pass rush, we have been behind the 8 ball.

but in terms of manufacturing pressure....i think our staff has done a great job of doing it with what we have had to work with....and that's no bonafide edge guys, even as good as DT was, it wasn't like he was uber consistent and you could just count on it.......

these guys were in on now...........yeah, those guys can pin their ears back.

No doubt we need better edge guys. Hopefully Roman takes a leap this year as well as the older guys. Maybe Baron or Joseph are ready

i think Roman has a real opportunity in front of him. 2nd year in, developed some...i think this spring/summer hurts everyone tho in that regard.

as for the freshmen...i mean, i think it's possible for TB and MJ to both contribute.....if they HAVE to be relied upon, i'd say something bad happpened then.

Yup. It's been a little odd to me that Pruitt hasn't been able to consistently pull those true edge guys due to his rep but whoa that's changed. I think this future Dline is going to keep them clean A LOT. Can't wait.

I agree but I felt that when the D started truly believing in the scheme and trusting in what CP and CA were coaching in the second half the coaches were able to create sacks from sets. It was beautiful but we do need edge rushers in a bad way.

well, look at what the roster was....who were the DL? the LB's? the corners?

coaches aside, if i'm an elite edge guy.....at the time anyway....who am i gonna be next two?

now, couple years in, there's plenty of evidence on tape to show what we can do with what we have simply BECAUSE of the coaches.....

imagine what we (coaches) can do with you (elite pass rusher)......................................

pretty sure it's an easy sell to say edge guys can be featured.

oh, and you see this tape of DT from 3-4 years ago? i mean look at that kid, looks like a baby giraffe.

i got tht kid drafted in the 2nd round in just 2 years....you'll be signing your rookie deal in what would be the summer of your SR season.
