While she ain't the first mayor to have a DPU, she could have easily shut it down. The whole "these are Metro's rules" are a joke.

While it does seem funny for the Mayor of Nashville to have a "security detail" its existence has precedent. It isn't like his role was created just once she became mayor.

The thing that Barry is going to have to do is demonstrate that the huge increase in his OT pay was legitimate (i.e., he would have legitimately earned that pay even if he wasn't banging the mayor).

It'll be hard for her to do that, damn near impossible. She should but won't do the right thing and step down.

She likely has cover for all of the trips. She'd really have to be an idiot to fly to a place like Paris or Athens without even a pretense of a legitimate visit (a mayors' summit, etc.).

I'm betting there was some OT that was booked where he didn't really work OT (or that much OT), whether it be on the trips or just a normal day where she made public appearances in Nashville.

If there is one minute of paid time, not just OT while banging it's theft. She should resign.

For those wanting her gone be careful what you wish for. Take a look at who’s waiting in the wings as vice mayor. He makes Megan look like Marsha Blackburn
He’d turn us into the next Portland Oregon

That's what a lot of people living in Nashville (not natives or long-time residents, but a lot of the newer transplants from outside the southeast) want, unfortunately.

Not necessarily. Maybe he thought there was an intruder in that thing and he was doing his duty to root it out.

she should be held accountable for stealing tax payer dollars, Nashville is also a far left city no stopping that and probably why nothing will happen to her

Interesting how this is a totally different story if the genders are reversed, isn't it?

Nashville Mayor Megan Barry admits to affair with the officer who ran her police detail - The Washington Post

This is outrageous. She should resign. I don't necessarily agree that it's totally different if the genders are reversed. I expect she will start talking more about the death of her son to generate sympathy but there is no way her political career can survive this.

Affair started in 2016 so the grief angle is a failboat.

I meant the way it is covered by the media is totally different if the genders are reversed. If this was a male mayor having an affair with a female subordinate, then it would be covered as another #metoo situation with the male mayor being guilty of borderline rape (since a subordinate in the employee/employer relation can't reasonably "consent").

Since it is the other way around (the female is the superior), she'll be allowed to apologize and move on.

I disagree with you here. We'll see.

I don't disagree. All I'm saying is that the guy she was sleeping with did security for previous mayors, so it isn't like his position was invented for him when Barry became the mayor. It's an actual position that would have existed and he would have been paid for whether or not the affair was going on. That's Barry's defense, and she's correct in that statement.

Like I said before, the red flag is how his overtime pay exploded (more than doubled) once he started doing detail for Barry. She says everything he was paid overtime for was a legit expense. Maybe so, but it has to be investigated, and if some kind of arrangement was going on (she was allowing him to overbook his overtime hours, she decided to go on these official-sounding trips that she wouldn't have otherwise gone on if she wasn't sleeping with him, etc.) then she needs to be charged with a crime.

But, it appears the position(s) changed.

In the HR/business ethics world it's never acceptable to screw a subordinate. There is no way to know whether overtures were accepted due to enticement, fear, or just just good ole' horniness. That said, in the era of ends-based identity politics, the people who support the mayor will not turn on her until they see her as more of a hindrance than a help in getting what they want out of city hall. If she falls, it's going to be the good ole' boy East Nashville of old crew led by the vice mayor versus the blacks led by whichever councilperson they throw out in front. Either of those crews would probably be bad news for the county.

Not sure if you know Nashville politics. The vice mayor of nashville is an even bigger liberal than Barry. He'd bend over backwards to ensure the blacks in nashville had a carte blanche of whatever they wanted. He'd probably change the nashville flag to have a rainbow in it. It very well could be worse for us to have cheatin' Megan than limp wristed David Briley as mayor.

A couple of things people should keep in mind about this well thought out antic.

*Forest, aka Barry's boy toy, had been head of security for not only Barry but the previous two administrations. She didnt cherry pick him or promote him. She inherited him. It will be very difficult to definitely prove she purposely did it for him to make more money.

*All of Forest overtime was on the job. Yes, there was an increase, in fact a dramatic increase, but ever thing he did was job related. They will have to scrutinize every hour and minute he claimed as OT to find a time when he wasnt working.

*As mentioned, he was paid OT to work. If he works and his superior signed off on it, he deserves it. That's not an opinion. Its the law. If he followed the proper channels you cant get the money back. This isnt like Barry bought a Lamborghini for her official mayor car instead of using the Toyota Prius the previous admin had or upgraded the bathrooms to gold toilets. Its wages and that's a totally different ballgame than purchased objects.

*Forest didnt retire quickly due to being scared or it being made public. He was smart. Very smart. He had accrued enough service to be eligible to start receiving a pension. In Nashville its called the rule of 84. When your age + your years of service is 84 you can begin to receive your pension. He's over 50 and had 30+ yrs of service so he could do it. The brilliant part was why now. When pension is determined, they use your income over the past 5 years as the guide to what you will make and that's regular salary plus overtime (this is for all employees which includes the police). With the money he's made over these 5 yrs, nows the time to stop. Work anymore after all this came out and he would get no where as much OT as now. He's maximized his pension before it decreased.

When the gender should are reversed it's often called abusive due to the power disparity. Women in power who get caught in affairs with their underlings don't tend to get hammered with accusations of it being predatory in its nature.

Only been here about half a century and used to represent the Vice mayor's brother when the Democrats ran the statehouse. Probably don't know much though.

ok. so why would one of nashville's biggest liberals, David Briley, want to butt heads with the black delegation? Not trying to be snippy or snarky with you but trying to see the reasoning behind him doing such a thing. Very uncharacteristic with today's democratic party
