Meltdown in progress

We are exactly what we are a 8-4 football team.
Next year will be 8-4 , following year 9-3, following year 10-2 with possible playoff appearance. Then back to 8-4 and repeat cycle.

We’ve beaten:

Virginia
Austin Peay
University of San Antonio
South Carolina
Texas A&M
Kentucky
U Conn

Maybe, just maybe, we’re not as good as we thought, certainly not as good as this fan board often represented. Missouri embarrassed us tonight. Georgia will beat us next week, in spite of all my hopes and dreams. I bleed orange, but reality is what it is. Maybe 8-4 is reasonable. Maybe not, it’s what I predicted. But tonight was bad. Very bad. We didn’t just lose. We got manhandled in every aspect.

Very fair. It’s still extremely possible to end the season 9-4, which wouldn’t be the end of the world record wise. The performances against Florida and Missouri, however, aren’t what anyone hoped to see in year three.

We clearly aren't Alabama, but no way you see a Saban led team play like that against 2nd tier teams. I'm not down on Heupel but he better be pissed off after what we saw if not then Heupel will be a 8-4 coach for years to come with little hope of an SEC championship. We were not competitive.

Surprised there hasn't been a call to organize a caravan to Birmingham to storm the SEC headquarters and overthrow the head of officials office. Because if it wasn't for the refs, UT would be 10-0 now, ranked #1, and would have won today by at least 65-0.

🤣

Because calling out people for their upset after a loss like this is really setting people straight...
Easy hoss, I mentioned no one by name nor set any body straight. I gave my opinion on the reaction to the program right now. Anyone that got triggered by that maybe is a little sensitive about how they’re acting or just doesn’t care for sunshine pumpers. If you want sympathy to your position on this tell me what your position is and I’ll be your amen section. I ain’t really set in any camp

On the plus side, Joe looked pretty damned good tonight with the exception of the pick 6.

I'm old enough to remember seeing these trends

View attachment 594800

Those two Butch Jones years, the 9-4s, those are the only ones that make me clench up. A number of coaches have moments of partial success early Butch did as well (though it took guys like Kamara and Dobbs to do it). I don't think for a second that Heupel is on the same level as ol' Butch, but ... it's one of those "we won't know until we see it" kind of things, and until we _see_ the real proof Tennessee's turned the corner, we're just ... going to be waiting. And now it looks like we'll be waiting another year at least.

Sigh.

Meh.

I wouldn’t say start over but something definitely needs to change and quick.

Heupel looked intimidated by Missouri and we never recovered.

Reminded me of Butch Jones during big games.
If anyone thinks that Heupel needs to be replaced they're an idiot.

Sure we lost against a bad Florida team... that's inexcusable.

We lost to a Bama team that is down a bit but they still have enough talent to beat any one in the country.

But Missouri is not a bad team. They're statistically one of the best in the SEC. Sure we should be scoring more points and that's a fair point to make but I'd anyone doesn't remember the COMPLETE dumpster fire we were when he got here. We finally have a little bit of competence and stability and people want that to end?

The fact is that we aren't going to win every game.
The same fact is true of every team in the nation. Sooner or later even Georgia will lose.
