Memphis lands Xavier Henry

All 20,000 fans they have. The reason Memphis will never get in a big time conference becuase they are terrible, and I mean terrible at football. THey can hardly go .500 in the C-USA so what do you think would happen to them in a major conference. ANother reason is because they dont have fans, and they can not fill up the stadium(I am still waiting on the anwswer about the stadium CALISKING) and the Liberty Bowl is a dump compared to some of the football stadiums in the south.

You actually never asked a question. Just made a statement. The reason the LB doesn't fill up is because of 2 reasons: losing and the opponents. Same reason Neyland didn't sell out this year.

Would you spend a beautiful fall day watching SMU, Arkansas State, or Tulane if there were something better to do? Would you miss the Georgia game?

Football program is in a "chicken or egg" dilemma. We need better recruits, to win more, to generate more $$, so we can get in a BCS conference, so we can build better facilities, that will help get better recruits, so they can win more......

The University is taking steps that will make the program attractive to a BCS conference when the next split comes. Have just completed a softball facility and golf facility. Brand new baseball facility and offices to be complete in 2010 and new FB weightroom/turfroom set to complete 2010.

Most of these have come from private donations, which have risen every year for the past 5 years. Because of TBR, Memphis has had to wait in line on projects with the likes of MTSU, Tenn Tech, etc. There is real possibility of Memphis splitting from TBR and having its own Board that can lobby directly to the State.

The LB is owned by the City of Memphis, not the University. The City gives the University a cheap lease and is responsible for all repairs, updates, etc. Alumni and donors want an On Campus Stadium that costs $$$. Administration likes the cheap rent and 0 maintenance cost. There is also a political aspect that would rival War and Peace if I started on that.

Site lines are actually better than most stadiums I have been in. Not really a bad seat there - except for fact that you are watching terrible football. As far as concessions, bleachers/box seat ratio, parking, and restrooms LB is similar to other stadiums I have been in. Luxury boxes are lacking. Again, city owned.

I will have to say that is a pretty good answer.

Pretty well stated though I think you could have thrown in Shirley Raines and RC as reasons as well.

You enjoy that game today?

If you are talking about Tulane, I enjoyed seeing the score on the scroller as I flipped between the Iron Bowl and Fla-FSU game. Spent afternoon with the dogs at the park. More fun than spending the afternoon with the "dogs at the stadium".

Tiger athletics start with BB season. Been to more baseball, soccer, or tennis games than football games in last 3 years. Why go to a game that is basically exhibition football. If Tigers go 13-0, they are ranked #18 and playing in Liberty Bowl. Never have a shot for NC. At least in all other sports there is a chance. A good chance in BB and remote in baseball and others.

Just a thought...Dickie V. will be in Memphis at the Tiger Bookstore for his book signing on Dec. 19th. for anyone interested that's in town at that time..

Thanks but no thanks. :)

I will save it for the $150 plate dinner that night.

Nice showing by the Tigers tonight. The hometown crowd favorite got them to 100 points by hitting two free throws (seriously, put this kid in at the end of close games for FT purposes) and then a big 3 pointer.

Pierre is up to about a good half of basketball before he gets winded.

Yeah, I went to the game last night and it was a good showing. Tyreke is starting to learn the game better it seems. Man, the crowd really did love that hometown guy (G-town boy). Pierre needs to shed about 20-25 more lbs. before he can go full time for sure, but he is a hell of alot better than than year. I really wish Witherspoon would have had a better game last night, there's just something about this young man I like to watch, he will be a good one in due time. I will be at the dinner, if you go PM me and let me buy us a few.

:good!:

Well NCAA cleared freshmen Simpkins today for Memphis. That should help Memphis with the depth in the post. Now Memphis just needs to get Garcia cleared and get him up to speed and he should be some good help (if cleared). C J Henry should be in soon also.

I am afraid it is going to take Simpkins and Garcia a while to catch up with the rest of the team. Then again, it isn't like the team is playing extremely smooth yet anyway.

I wonder how much PT the two will get in DC.

I just want CJ to get going, he is almost there. Cal said he's running with the team (in practice) and everything, but he is getting his body from a baseball body back to a basketball body.

Tigers looked better Tuesday night. Marist sucks, but Reke was sharing the ball, driving the ball, not fading away. Seemed more intense and players getting to their spots on floor on break, in offense. Defense was suffocating. By mid January, should be clicking and rotation set. Will know more after Gtown and Syracuse.

Yea, I am curious to see what he can provide for the team. He has the advantage over Simpkins and Garcia in that he could practice with the team (legally anyway).

While they did look better against Marist, it was Marist.

Hell, the Tigers even gave Marist a "power play" chance and couldn't score.

Garcia will never put on a Memphis uniform.

The more I watch West Virginia basketball I watch Devin Ebanks play, I could understand 100% why Cal went after this young man so hard. He's going to be a good one for Mr. Huggins.

Cal brought in Chris Paul today for the opening day of Camp Cal to talk and watch the team pratice today. Paul said the biggest thing this team needs is the will to win. Paul also said he liked what he seen in Tyreke, but he really likes Pierre Niles. He said if he would loose 15 more lbs. he would be a force. Talk about some motivation.
