Memphis lands Xavier Henry

.........and going to the Final Four, being drafted in the 1st round, and a seven figure salary. Tragic.

Only way series ends is if football ends. No offense, but if I had to choose I would rather play Carolina, Syracuse, Duke, Kansas, UCLA, etc. than the Vols. If the Tiger program wants long term to be considered with those elite BB programs, we need to be playing and beating them on a regular basis. Of course some won't play us.

Yeah, we know all about people not wanting to play us.

On top of what exactly? Tiger program is exactly where I want it. In a rebuilding mode that will probably net a Sweet 16 finish. Not bad for rebuilding.

A real conference. It's called the SEC. You should check it out sometime.

Been to KNoxville. No good restaurants, no culture. Take the University away and it is Jackson, TN.

That statement tells me that you haven't been to Knoxville. Per capita, Knoxville has one of the highest percentages of restaurants in the country. What does Memphis have if you take away Graceland? Ghettos don't count as culture.

No matter what it is TN is better than Memphis. Done deal. Better football team, better basketball team, better coaches, better facilities, better fans, better women. Memphis is not the best place. Yes Memphis has had a pretty good run the past couple of years but who remembers the 2nd place teams in the tournament? Nobody. Tennessee and Candy are the colleges from TN not Memphis.

You cannot be serious. How can a program that has won fewer NCAA Tournament games, never been to an Elite 8, much less a Final Four, be considered a better basketball program? Just because UT leads 11-7 head to head? Memphis has a winning record versus Kansas, Syracuse, Georgetown, UCONN, and Kentucky. I would never consider Memphis a better basketball program than those schools simply because we hold a head to head edge. Each of those schools has more NCAA Tournament success and tradition (i.e. NC, Final Fours, etc.).

UT fans keep saying no one remembers who finished second in the NC game. With that logic, UT basketball is even more irrelevant. If no one really remembers who finished second or who was in the Final Four, then who remembers the 15th or 16th best team each year?

Cracker Barrel, Chili's, Macaroni grill, and O'Charleys aren't real restaurants. Bonefish is not fine seafood. If you have actual been to Memphis (not Wolfchase, Germantown, or Collierville) you would have eaten in any of the fine locally owned Italian, Pacific, Seafood, and Indian restaurants. If you could afford it. Of course, these places don't have paper napkins, paper tablecloths, or buffets.

2 Nationally recognized Art Museums, Theater with (2) Broadway seasons, and a Downtown entertainment scene that puts the strip and Foundry to shame. I realize all of that is not the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, but we can always wish.

And for your all your tour guides needs call CALISKING, he can tell you about all those National Championships that Memphis has won, that wont take very long, and then show your the beautiful football complex Memphis has, that wont take very long either, then he can show you the beautiful Liberty Bowl, well maybe its not so beautiful, and show you pictures of the sell out crowds and then you can ask him why there are no Memphis fans when it is sold out, its all either ORange or REd and Navy. Why is that CALISKING? Why, why, why?

Really? Everytime I go to downtown Memphis I see ghettos and thugs patroling the street. Memphis is the Detroit of the South. You almost have to carry a gun when you are in Memphis, it is THAT BAD. And congrat-a-freaking-lations on having an Art museum, we ARE SO JEALOUS! But I will say this, going to a Grizzly game and watching them lose with about 500 fans every night is always fun.

Memphis sucks. The city has been going down hill ever since Elvis died.

No one cares about Memphis, you and the other 900 fans who actually pay attention to Memphis athletics should just worry about beating UAB.

And I love what the poster above said about the Liberty Bowl, it ONLY sells out when Tiger High plays Tennessee!

Thought Georgia was SEC Champion last year. They did get the automatic bid, right?

A conference the Vols have won what twice in the last 20 years. Regular season Conference titles mean nothing except going towards seeding in NCAA tourney. When 6 teams from the SEC go to the NCAA tourney, who cares who won the conference? They all reach the dance. 2005-2006, FLA won NC while coming in 2nd in Regular Season to LSU. Think they would trade the NC banner for an SEC Season Championship banner? Didn't think so.

Memphis has won several Conference Championships in the last 20 or so years. Couldn't tell you what years. Don't care. Most fans can recall S16, E8, and FF quickly. Guess that's difference in programs. Local versus national success.

Poster said Memphis had no culture since Elvis died. Guess I should know that the definition of culture to a bunch of toothless hillbillies is drinking cheap whiskey and coke at a sporting event, tractor pulls, NASCAR, and going to the THEE-ATER to see the last Rock movie.

Along with your tour CALISKING is a qualified historian. He seems to know everything about Tennessee, the little brother knows everything about the big brother right? CALISKING you did not answer my question, I know your probably avoiding it but why is that?????

THey didnt win to many when Louisville and Cincinatti was in the conference. They have only started winning it when the likes of Rice and SMU started playing in it. NEWSFLASH NEWSFLASH Its not that hard to win the C-USA pal. There is one good team and sometimes one decent team (UAB).

Judging by your grammar, you obviously did not attend UT, but are a sidewalk fan. I think you mean "They didN'T win TOO many when Louisville and Cincinatti WERE in the Conference.

This is too easy. Last year that Cincy/Louisville, etc. in CUSA,Tigers were Co-Champions. Next?

Tigers have no control over their conference. Do you honestly think they WANT to be in CUSA? All you can do is beat who is in front of you. Weak CUSA hasn't seemed to hurt them the last 3 years in March, has it?

Do they hang banners for CO-champions? Thats like kissing your sister 3 times. Like somebody said earlier why don't you go back to your 5,000 other fans if Memphis has that many and talk about how to hit a free throw. (Maybe you should try granny style that might work better, hey it couldn't get any worse) Your a joke, go back home.

Tour guide, Historian, and English Teacher. Dang people get in line for this guys autograph he is great.

Neither is Football technically. Those NC UT has won came from the BCS, AP, UPI, etc. not the NCAA. NCAA does not crown NC in football. Just a glorified popularity contest.

Football is an NCAA sport. It just has no NCAA championship. Pom and wtf other sport you mentioned aren't even NCAA sanctioned sports. Ya joke

Someone please call the ACLU for the Tigers! It appears they are being held against their will in a conference they can't escape. Please, have some sympathy for them and their poor fans.

All 20,000 fans they have. The reason Memphis will never get in a big time conference becuase they are terrible, and I mean terrible at football. THey can hardly go .500 in the C-USA so what do you think would happen to them in a major conference. ANother reason is because they dont have fans, and they can not fill up the stadium(I am still waiting on the anwswer about the stadium CALISKING) and the Liberty Bowl is a dump compared to some of the football stadiums in the south.

The Liberty Bowl is a dump but I do think more fans would go to games if the team were better AND if they were playing teams other than Rice and SMU.

I agree with that. But they can not even beat Rice and with Jones at SMU I dont figure they will be ever to hang around with them.

Which is why I am just not sure Tommy is the answer. If you (UM fans) are content with the New Orleans Bowl (or similar) every year than keep him. He is a great guy all around but just can't get them past the mediocre phase. He really should have built better off of the DW/DW years.

Wow, you obviously have never been to Knoxville. Believe it or not, Knoxville is actually a down-to-Earth city. Its not a hick town in Alabama, nor is it a slum like Memphis.
