:) Been fighting off a bad case of the flu all day. Brought a smile to my face. Does anyone else loathe all things Memphis?

Marshall isn't terrible and a road win is always tough to het, especially in conference.

As a Vol fan you should root for Memphis in every game outside of the UT-Memphis game. If they have success, it only makes our blowout win over them more impressive. When they lose to Conference USA opponents in convincing fashion, it degrades a quality win from our tournament resume.

I don't hate Memphis, I hate the idea that Memphis could ever truly compete with us on any level.

Wow. Can't a guy take a little comfort in the misfortune of a fan base that is filled with dillusions of their role? Memphis is no UT, but they have fans( Fred Smith, crack heads, and homeless people) that think differently.

Drive outside of Shelby County. The fans will not bother you any more.

I understand your motivation, but I'd rather have Memphis go on a big enough run to make our win over them look impressive to the committee.

Narrow minded side walk fans repulse me.

Truth. The only Memphis fans I've ever met in my life were UT students from Shelby County. It is sad though that every time we play Memphis at home, about 1/10 of the UT student section is decked out in Tiger High blue.

You mean you loath all things Memphis, except their recruits. Did you loathe Dane Bradshaw? Way to think your post through.

:ermm: You should spend your time worrying about UT -- as bad as Memphis is this year, UT may have to play them in the NIT.

And you absolutely can take comfort in a down year from a rival team. But, I think you are the only one with delusions of grandeur. I'll take Memphis's basketball history over UT's any day as would anyone else who knows a lick about college basketball. You obviously lack the objectivity, maturity, or historical knowledge (I won't say "age", b/c that upsets younger folks on here that strive to know the history, and good for them:good!:) to know that UT's basketball history doesn't even come close to touching Memphis's.

Actually we compete for a ton of recruits in the Memphis area. We want Memphis to be bad.

It would be a logical and smart decision to root for Memphis in every game, so it would make us look more attractive to the committee. On the other hand, I want Memphis' NCAA tournament streak to end and I don't want them to look as attractive to recruits after having 2 mediocre seasons. Hence, I am hoping they lose every game from here on out. Our win will not look good by the end of the season. I am hoping UCONN, Nova and Pittsburgh stop playing like last night and win every game the rest of the way out. I know Pitt won but they looked like crap on the road against Rutgers.

On a side note, I didn't realize Memphis had 2 final fours and tournament appearances vacated (1985, 2008) due to NCAA violations. I'm not sure how they didn't have to sit out the 2009 tournament after what happened with Derrick Rose. If we go to the tournament this year and Memphis doesn't, then we will have just as many tournament appearances as Memphis at 19.

Can't believe there is not post with a "true fan" tone in this thread.

What history? Am I supposed to be impressed that Memphis has lost higher than Tennessee? Why even talk about history? Neither team has any, zero men's basketball championships. Thanks for being that guy, that post always brings a smile to my face and reminds why I don't care about Memphis athletics with a little pity thrown in. Cue up the women's basketball comments.

1) Memphis is a better place when the tigers win, so I feel a little need to root for them (except when they play UT).

2) Then their fan base opens their mouths again, and I remember why I enjoy seeing them lose like this.

I don't think it really matters that much. We didn't struggle with them in any way. They didn't even look like they belonged on the same court as us in that game. Its pretty obvious Memphis isn't very good, and we stepped on their throat early and never gave them a glimmer of hope, which is what good (I didn't say great) teams do to bad teams. If we had won by one point or something I would be more concerned with what they were doing. It could help a tiny bit, but not enough for me to ever start cheering for them. I think its much more valuable to us for them to completely irrelevant, which is the direction they are heading.
