Memphis Megaclass?

I have not liked Calipari for a long time, however, I never thought that he had a problem in being a leader to his team. However, that changed when he threw Rose under the bus after the championship game. Either Cal told him to foul and Rose didn't (I know, it is an incredibly tough task to carry out), or Cal made a coaching mistake, risked letting Chalmers get the shot off and then blamed his poor coaching decision on a player he knew would not be back the next season.

If the latter is true, then he is not only a poor leader, he is also a coach who went brain dead at the decisive moment.
He was asked if he told them to foul. He told the media the truth, which is that he did. The only person whose opinion matters about that issue, Derrick Rose, has spent all summer telling every elite prospect who calls him that Memphis is the place to be. Guess he's not very offended.

Playing more than 3 games in the NCAA Tournament is tradition around Tigerland. Sweet 16s are our birthright, not a major accomplishment like they are on the Hill.
Five Sweet 16's since the field expanded to 64...not exactly a birth right, High Speed.

How did we look in the middle?

I will just say Tyreke is the real deal, the young man is damn good. I think the guys who caught my eye the most was Roburt Sallie and Witherspoon. I can't really say enough about Tyreke, but Sallie just just a damn all around player and it was hard for anyone to guard this guy. Overall they look good, real good.

Sounds good and I know it's early , but did they do well in the scrimmage . Did they seem on the same page with each other.

Yes, they seem to already have alot of team chemistry, which I thought would be the downside to this team becuase so much is gone from last year, but it was there, for the most part. The fun part starts now the players have to go through Camp Cal. Good luck with that guys! :)

Will Coleman and Nolan Dennis are already in the fold. Xavier Henry seems a certainty. Multiple national recruiting analysts, and more importantly a number of coaches, think Baylor's hiring of Dwon Clifton was not enough and that John Wall will go with the Tigers. That is a potentially epic class.

While this would be a killer class, it doesn't necessarily mean that this team would have good chemistry and play well together, but if they do then look out! I am not a fan of Calipari, but the guy can recruit.

Know your facts.
1985: Final Four
1992: Elite 8
1995: Sweet 16
2006: Elite 8
2007: Elite 8
2008: Runner Up

Throw in a Runner Up in 1973 and Sweet 16s in 1982-84 and it is a birthright.

Oh...six, since the field expanded. My bad. You are obviously right, it is a birth right...

Great point.

Memphis Tournament History:
1956: Lost in first round
1961: Lost in first round
1962: Lost in first round
1973: Lost in Championship game
1976: Lost in first round
1982: Lost in Sweet 16 (field of 48)
1983: Lost in Sweet 16 (field of 48)
1984: Lost in Sweet 16 (field of 48)
1985: Lost in Final Four
1986: Lost in first round
1988: Lost in second round
1989: Lost in first round
1992: Lost in Final Four
1993: Lost in first round
1995: Lost in Sweet 16
1996: Lost in first round
2004: Lost in second round
2006: Lost in Final Four

I would say that not making the tournament and losing in the first round are more your birth right...

I wanted to but I also didn't want to miss (possibly) the only SEC win of the year. I chose Knoxville.

I rarely take anything away from Midnight Madness events though.

I am pretty sure Tiger fans would take a loss to UT every year if they make it to an Elite Eight (at least) every year.

Agreed. Regular season game is just a means to an end. Hoping for this trend to continue....please. Only game that would be a must win for me would be if Tigers and Vols played in the tournament. The last 2 years the Tiges and Vols could have played a meaningful March game if the Vols had held up their end of the bargain and won their games.

I don't know why it should based on NCAA tournament success.

The reason some Tiger fans get riled up about the series record is because is somewhat distorted. Vols hold a slim margin in head to head. However, the Vols refused to play the Tigers in the mid 80s when the Tigers went to 3 Sweet 16s and 1 Fianl Four. Series was renewed 1 year after the Tigers came off probation. That being said, series would probably be even at 11-11, 12-10 at worst.

Add DeMarcus Cousins to this mega class mix also now. Cal is pushing very hard for this young stud.
