Memphis Under Investigation

No way. The program was on a pedestial and peaking, this kills recruiting and Fich and Kirk were in the Metro not the USA. Memphis will never get to a final four unless they UPSET higher seeds to get there.

By kill recruiting do you mean signing a 5-star recruit (Rivals #17) with only 6 weeks on the job. Or being in final 2 for #6 of 2010 class? Recruiting will be fine. Pastner signed a 5-star less than 2 months on the job. It took Cal 2 years and World Wide Wes to land his first and 3 of his 4 (Wagner, Rose, Evans).

Memphis will be fine without Cal. Hat is correct in his assessment. Since 1970, each decade has produced a Final Four (except 90s) and on average at least 3 Sweet 16s or better.

Pastner has been refeshing with his positive attitude versus "everyone's out to get us" mentality.

As far as returning to the Final Four, how many have the Vols been to again? It ain't easy, or everyone would be doing it.

Gene Bartow and Dana Kirk took Memphis to the Final Four. Larry Fich got them to a regional final. It's not like John is the only coach who ever won there. They won before he got there, they'll win now that he's gone.

Well said, spot on.

John Calipari (the SQUID): twenty years later, your name can be mentioned with another Memphis State immortal: Dana Kirk. It's a set! Now let's sit back as the NCAA sends the A-team into Lexington (you know they're watching your tentacles, John).

memphis will do ok..they will not get as much as exposure because they do not have an attention grabbing whore for a coach now though.

Myrobbins...your avatar is funny.

If you think this will hurt Memphis' recruiting, you're dreaming.

The idea of the 'AA having an "A-Team" is the most laughable thing I've heard in a long, long time.

I believe Hat needs to take off the Calipari-Colored Glasses.

I started laughing before I even opened this thread because I new the Hat-Defense was going to be all over this thread.

On topic - I don't really care what happens to Memphis. I hope Pastner does well.
However, I hope Cal and UK get blasted by NCAA. Its only a matter of time.

I think you are mistaken....

I've checked the record book and Kirk never took Memphis to a Final Four.

You must be young. Memphis State played in the Final Four, lost to Villanova who went on to win it all. However, Coach Kirk got in some trouble with the NCAA and they may have vacated their trip to Lexington. The NCAA sucks huge donkey balls.

This will end up doing just as much damage to Memphis as the Darrell Arthur acadmeic fraud investigation did to Kansas.

Hat,

I read the whole NCAA letter. It appears the "major allegations" refer primarily to the women's golf team.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the whole Rose thing sounds a lot like Darrel Arthur. As long as the U of M did not "knowingly" accept these suspect test scores, there will definetly be no major punishment and probably no "vacating" of season ala KU's "punishment" for the Arthur grade issue. Especially since the NCAA clearinghouse, themselves, cleared all of Rose's transcripts and test scores.

The unreimubursed travel expenses are minor as they could be an accounting oversight.

It appears that the only fault that could be proven would be on the part of the Rose machine and Simeon HS, not the U of M.

I also find it funny that in this same document, the secondary violation of the FedEx exec. calling Abdul Gaddy's mother is mentioned. This part of the the letter was released back in January. As usualy, RC got it half right.

It's very similar to Arthur's case, with one difference. Rose's grades were doctored, then corrected after the transcripts were sent to schools. That doesn't appear to be in dispute. In the Kansas case, I don't feel there was ever sufficient evidence to prove any academic fraud took place. That said, absent Memphis having been an active participant or, to use a legal term, "willfully blind" the 'AA has no business punishing them.

Common sense says so. My only worry is the old double standard used against the "have nots".

It doesn't appear that Cal did anything wrong here, or at least it can't be proven. Why didn't RC leak when UK was wooing Cal? The public pressure in Bluegrass country would have forced them to abandon their pursuit.

RC Johnson is a straight up idiot. As with everything else that happened in Memphis during John's tenure, I'm sure he just did what Cal told him.

Are you still whining about Cal being gone? It's pretty easy to get a new username. I bet if you asked Freak would let you keep your post count.
