For hmanvolfan... shepherds were in the fields watching their flocks at the time of Jesus' birth (Luke:2:7-8). Shepherds were not in the fields during December. According to Celebrations: The Complete Book of American Holidays, Luke's account "suggests that Jesus may have been born in summer or early fall. Since December is cold and rainy in Judea, it is likely the shepherds would have sought shelter for their flocks at night.

Lol. I'm a Joseph as well. I appreciate the shout out to my son.

My church actually does not have a cross believe it or not. Anywhere.

We believe in worshiping a living Christ and not focusing on the death but the resurrection and the promise of eternal life.

I do, however, disagree with you about Christianity being the number one religion in the world, as far as numbers. That belongs to the Muslims. I also believe that Christianity is under attack. Look at other countries. Christians are getting beheaded for being christians. Look at the laws being passed attacking marriage and families.

Sorry just noticed this part.

Checked to make sure but the most recent data is
Christianity - 32% and the worlds largest.
Muslim #2 - 23%

We consider most Muslim countries as third world.
Comparing their actions would only be fair if we used ours from the crusades.
Not sure if beheading was our choice of killing but I am fairly certain, they were dead just the same.

By the way, isn't the seasonal thing different in that part of the world?

I'm sorry we have picked the eve of the birth of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ to make such petty arguments but I'm done with this conversation with this, you don't like me and I don't like you and think you're a petty and shallow individual. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a fabulous new year.

the difference is i do like you because we are so different in opinions ...

Ok. I'll keep playing. "X" 2000 years ago was written to mean "chi". Another word for Christ. Nobody I have ever met in my lifetime, 1982-2014, has ever said anything about chi and Christ in the same sentence. Lots of things have changed in the last 2000 years. You and I could have this debate via pencil and paper or gaelic writings or whatever we want. We chose to use the internet. "X" in today's society means to omit or cross out (to me and 99% or the rest of America). When I see xmas it is a missed chance to remind someone of the true meaning of Christmas, IMO. I'm not sure what we're even debating about at this point. I was just asking why, as a consensus, do people not write it out.

My Vote goes to you. Merry CHRISTmas

Perhaps the term "Happy Holidays" is used out of respect to all faiths that celebrate this time of the year and not necessarily a slight to your Christian beliefs?

No. Its a cowardly way for the media and others to turn what used to be a celebration of the birth of Christ into nothing but a commercial "holiday".

This day CHRISTMAS is a celebration of the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

To the Op, thank you for your kind words. I to wish you and everyone else here a very merry Christmas.

I'm not going to argue with a name on a website about who or what I believe in and worship. Forgive me for not taking the bait, but I'm going to go enjoy the rest of my CHRISTmas eve with my family. Merry CHRISTmas charger and everyone else. Hope all is well with you and yours.

^^^^^^^This times INFINITY!!!!!!! I have been writing Merry CHRISTmas for years!!! It is funny it always changes Christ to small letters after the C several times before it will let it remain that way. I do it to MAKE A POINT! Why is there no other Greek letter in any other holiday? I don't speak Greek nor understand it. I am certainly not going to use it to remember the birth of our Savior!!! Don't let the people who have gotten Christ taken out of schools fool you!!! X was started to keep people from thinking of Christ or to be politically correct with all the other nations that are taking over the USA!!! I am so sick of Happy Holidays and Xmas. I get to where I cringe. I was watching parades and several live shows a lot tonight. I don't think I heard ONE PERSON say Merry CHRISTmas!!! It is ridiculous!!!! Ok y'all, I am done with my rant. PLEASE speak your minds and support our SAVIOR loud and proud!!!!!!!

Merry CHRISTmas Big Orange Nation!!!!!!! I think 2015 is going to be a great year to be a VOL, finally!!!!!!! :dance2:

This is America! America was built on Christianity, not muslim, jewish, or any other beliefs! If they don't like it. They can go back to where they were or their ancestors were! That is America's problem! Unlike any other country, we cater to everyone else except our own ethnic background that BUILT THIS COUNTRY!!! Now, these idiots are destroying it by going against most of the constitution and Christian beliefs that ONCE MADE THIS COUNTRY GREAT!!!!

Merry CHRISTmas VOLnation!!!!!!! :)

Christmas.

There's a whole story behind the name and reasoning beyond sales papers for the gift giving.
