President Barack Obama said a no-fly zone over Libya to protect the civilian population from the Gadhafi regime's fighter jets remains a possibility as "we are slowly tightening the noose" around Gadhafi, but he stopped short of moving toward military action.
From what I've read, the rebels have actually seized and effectively grounded a fair number of planes themselves. Libya only has maybe a couple 100 fighters total, and many have been in one way or another compromised already. Now that there are superior foreign jets also in the mix, the air portion of Kadafi's campaign is done.
I still don't believe that; the rebels are still unorganized, ill equipped, no training to speak of, etc. The fact of the matter is someone is going to have to put boots on the ground.
They have no way to shoot the jets down. No jets is better than jets. Period. But you're right, someone is still going to have to step in and send in troops to help them win this fight.
I think they can win without foreign boots, but the French and others will have to systematically take out some of Gaddafi's ground forces. They've already targeted some tanks.
I wonder if we'll see a concentrated effort to eliminate tanks and mechanized infantry. If so, that will definitely even the odds.
too bad the US doesn't have any A-10's it can put on the scene, best tank killer ever made.
A-10's are one of the baddest most deadly planes ever made. A literal flying jet tank and tank killer. Truly awesome.
Some of my fondest memories of visiting Myrtle Beach is the scream of A-10's flying over the beaches. I miss those since they closed the AFB. It's not the same.
