Meyer placed on administrative leave. No joke!

With the recent abuse awareness movements (i.e. #metoo) and encouraging people to speak up about domestic violence, sexual abuse, etc, the NCAA could really do well for themselves in the public eye to determine that the OSU suspension is not enough and hand out their own suspension. But much like FIFA, they are much too corrupt and far too busy stacking their money.

"Best" moments from the press conference:

- Urban didn't "intentionally lie." The Merriam-Webster definition of the word "lie" is "an assertion of something known or believed by the speaker or writer to be untrue with intent to deceive." A lie is, by definition, intentional. Are they saying Urban went George Costanza on us; it wasn't a lie because he believed it to be true?
- Urban sometimes has significant memory issues in other situations where he had prior extensive knowledge of events. So not only does he have a hard condition, but some kind of early-onset Alzheimers.

I would have liked to see the NCAA step in and impose the old school wrasslin' measure of having Meyer suspended in a cage over the field during the TCU game so he couldn't interfere, a la Jim Cornette or J.J. Dillon.

Yeah, the he didn't intentionally lie as into cover up or mislead is comical.

Urban suffers from selective dementia.

They specifically (regarding media) are in a peculiar position given what this is about and their decision to become more political as of late.
Very well said. They have competing interests in this story...they want to defend Ohio St/Urban but it is very problematic given the current climate. I say they err on the side of being too critical of Urban, especially given the politics involved and the claim they have staked there. You know, it's only sexist conservatives who would doubt a domestic violence claim, and they want to virtue signal to contrast that.

ESPN actually doesn't appear to be defending him at all at the moment, and the analysts they have trotted out, dare I say, have been balanced. They've had Finebaum out there, who is very critical of the whole thing and thinks Urban absolutely should be fired. Herbstreit is an OSU homer who was much more tempered in his criticism. Rece Davis is a neutral guy who said the suspension doesn't achieve anything but wouldn't go as far to say he should be fired. The coverage actually seems balanced for a change.

They are not painting as ugly a picture of Meyer as others in the media, but they can't come off as defending him either. Tight rope for them to sound harsh enough without really calling it what it is. Sounds similar to OSU's official stance. He probably is a POS but he's valuable to our program.

ESPN will brush it under the rug in 3-4 weeks then the company line will be "he's been punished let's move past it".

Yet on their forums, almost universally, the mantra is "ESPN/Media (except Jeff Snook, lol) hate us".

I don't know. A prominent face on a prominent property of the network (Finebaum) has been on air a lot eviscerating Urban, even to the extent where OSU idiots (falsely) believe ESPN somehow is out to get their program. Of course, Finebaum is on their network to play to SEC fans, so who knows.

Of course coverage of the story itself will die down, especially once the season starts and then really die down once his suspension is over, but I don't think this will be forgotten. At least outside of Columbus it won't be forgotten.

It's also time for self-examination and to ask yourself "If this were my program, would I be exhibiting the same behavior I'm criticizing some Buckeye fans for" or "Would I not exhibit the behavior myself, but would I make excuses for our fans who were?" I think if any college football fan thinks their university administration and fanbase is materially different than Ohio State's, they aren't being honest with themselves. Sports are great, but they are also tribal, and they bring out unsavory character traits in people. If you think "that wouldn't happen here," I think you're being presumptuous and think a little too highly of the institution and the people who run it. You know there are 100-200 idiots who would do something like go to Neyland and protest and assorted idiots on social media who would defend Pruitt to the end if he became a great coach here and got involved in something like this. We, or any other fanbase of a big time football school, aren't all that different.

Wonder how Penn State fans feel about this. Are the situations comparable?
She married him willingly and stayed in the marriage through the abuse. I wouldn’t compare that to Sandusky’s victims.

Urban and OSU are getting ripped repeatedly on ESPN this morning
Yep and Bucknuts forum is calling this poor woman everything in the book and putting Meyer on a pedestal. Here's a post from one of their members. It's about the only clean post I could pull that wasn't calling her or the President names. If you decide to jump over and read it's definitely NSFW.

At least he wasn’t fired. It’s BS that he’s being punished for basically nothing.
What exactly did he do to merit a suspension?

Unbelievable.

LOL. I only hate one person in college football and that person is Urban Myer. He's an evil p.o.s. who could've saved Aaron Hernandez and several other people's lives IF he was a real coach. He's the worst example of what is wrong with our society.

Don’t get me wrong I am in no way a Myer supporter, but how exactly could he have saved Aaron Hernandez’s life? Seems to me the guy that murdered a couple people fits the evil p.o.s. mantra a little better than a football coach that you don’t like.

They're doing a pretty terrible job of "protecting" him so far.
Yeah, I agree. It is a totally inane show, but I actually watched the first segment of First Take just now because they were talking about this. It was 10 minutes of a non-stop evisceration of Urban. Even the host of the show was getting in on it.
