Meyer stepping down

Normally I would agree, however this is the 2nd time within a year. Me thinks he likes attention and he's lost the desire and recognizes that Florida deserves someone who can give what it takes (unlike a chubby guy who used to dress in orange on Saturdays in Knoxville).

Although the family thing is cool and all I dont buy it. He said the same thing last year and family/health issues are about the only thing you can say and people will empathize. No one is going to say "wow I can't believe he quit coaching for his family". Seriously, his kids are going to college and he wants to watch their games now? They were in school in the same town he lives in and couldnt go watch them. C'mon, that's bullshizzle.

Well, I know his daughter signed to play some sport at Florida-Gulf Coast, where she is (I think?) a freshman. His son is still in grade school.

And another daughter at Ga Tech according to his presser. He said in his presser that he never went to watch them play in high school.

I get what you mean. And I'd be surprised if it isn't Mullen.

I would be surprised if Mullen was the first choice, a 13–11 record is average for Miss St. I'd guess Chris Peterson or Jim Harbaugh get the first shot.

8-4 in your second year at MSST is well above average. 8-4 at FL or Bama would be average, but 8-4 at MSST is similar to 1 loss at FL or Bama.

Jackie Sherrill had seven seasons of 7 or 8 wins, and that was before the SEC expanded to an extra non conference game. It just seems like a gamble to hire Mullen based on one pretty good season at Miss St.

Yes, and those Sherrill teams were probably the best teams MSST has produced at least up until Mullen. That's my whole point. 8-4 at MSST is tough and on par with 11-1 by a program such as FL or Bama. Looking at MSST's history back to 1945, they've only had 2 seasons in which they won more than 8 games. FL and Bama have more NCs in that span than MSST has 9 or more win seasons.

8 wins at MSST is a big accomplishment.

From Gator Scout.com -

"As he was finishing, he was telling us for most of us this will be good because some of us need to start over and make a new impression with another coach. Near the end of the speech the freshman class was going crazy, saying they were all leaving and they kind of lost it for the most part. It really hit those guys hard, but to the others it was not as emotional. It was mainly a dead silence and everyone other than the freshmen were just looking around.

Hmm....that doesn't surprise me. Seeing as ESPN always gets retirees and those fired. Another reason why I can't stand ESPN. How many college football analysts do you need??

They have football analysts at ESPN?

I think this situation will set Florida back. Will it bring tham back to Charley Pell days? maybe. FSU, Tennessee, Miami will all have more energy than they have had over the past few years and this will draw kids away that would have gone to the gators.

Also, Chickillo was going nuts in the paper down here to day, and has has canceled his OV to Florida. did take an OV to North Carolina recently.
