Miami in the SEC: opinions?

I don't think he's the best, but he'll do fine. He isn't going to be competing with the best of them in the ACC.

He is not a championship caliber coach imo, and at Miami they expect to compete for national titles.

He got killed in recruiting by FSU and UF this past February (I think Meyer plucked 9 guys from South Florida), and if Miami isn't competing for division or conference titles, the little fan support they're getting now will go away.

Miami's football program will die on the vine if the SEC passes them over.

There's a bit of Gator homerism.

All the U needs to return to its dominance over UF is a president who supports the football program and AD at UF with enough gonads to schedule them.

While joining the SEC would make both more likely, they can get there without the SEC. The athletes are in their backyard and it's still the only part of Florida who doesn't give a damn about the Gators.

I know many UM fans and alums who share my opinion. Right now UM needs UF and the SEC more than the opposite.

All that giggling you heard in Tallahassee and Gainesville was a direct result of Shannon getting a contract extension. He simply is not the answer.

As for South Florida being the only part of Florida that doesn't give a damn about the Gators, you're absolutely right. The same can be said about the Dolphins, Marlins, Heat and the Canes. Miami is easily the worst "big city" sports town outside of Atlanta.

Touche.

But, I haven't given up on Shannon yet. There are a few signs of hope, but they'd really benefit from a different attitude towards the football program from the administration.

I'm guessing CRS's contract was the relatively inexpensive alternative. He probably makes less than Dooley. However, I think he's a better investment than the one UT made--which sux, but still. OK, go ahead and giggle again, but please don't make me pull for Bama while we're stuck watching the annual contests between Gators and Bammers. Talk about the worst nightmare a UT fan can have for the next few years. Ho hum...

Wait... the best chance to upset that annual outcome may be Spurrier. Oh well... the nightmare gets worse.

Fast forward 10 years... I have no idea how that looks, but I can't see it getting any worse for UT.:hi:

You know things are bad at Miami when you see threads titled "Great News: Randy Shannon just signed a 4 year deal" over on FSU's Rivals site. :eek:lol:

I'm all for miami coming to the SEC ... and as bad as their fans are whether we play miami in knoxville or miami it will be a home game for us. They're fan base is going to have to gain some passion if they wanna keep up with the current SEC schools
