1) Do you really think the almighty NCAA has spent like 2 years and millions of dollars investigating, will just give the U a slap on the wrist????? I don't think so!

2)I have friends down here that are U FANS. You should hear them tell me that the SEC isn't so good and most ACC teams could beat the SEC!!! BLAU BLAU BLAU. Who has UM played this year to be undefeated??????

They beat the Gators, ok I give them that. Then they beat North Carolina, FAU, Savannah State, South Florida and Georgia Tech and plays the powerful Wake Forest next!!! PLEASEEEEEEE!!! And now their fans are saying they are not in the top 5 because NCAA hates them. Have they ever thought maybe strength of schedule has something to do with it?????

Slap on the wrist.

Should the penalty be bigger...yes, but...as much as we as Vols fan are finding out, lack of depth is a huge problem! 9 lost scholly's over 3 years hurts that lack of depth.

With the amount of lawsuits the NCAA are facing as well as the public perception of them I think this will be the norm from this day forward with the NCAA. they are now afraid to over punish a team.

I dont know that they are "afraid" of punishing a team. I think they are merely incompetent of gathering the required materials to justify it. Too many chiefs, not enough indians.

They don't ever need to OVER punish a team. They just need to punish, which they did for Miami.

lol slap on the wrist!

thanks for wasting our time!

Congrats MC, people can debate whether the program deserved more but can't deny that these players deserve to be able to play in a bowl this year. Possibly a BCS bowl. Best of luck against the Noles in a few weeks

Unbelievable. I remember when the story broke on Yahoo, it was almost a foregone conclusion that Miami would get near-death penalty sanctions.

NCAA is a joke

The way they (NCAA) botched up (possibly/debatably breaking law) during the investigation and had to stop and investigate themselves (while people were being fired and fleeing the organization for other jobs)...you knew nothing terrible/serious could actually come of it, right?

If you don't believe they didn't try to coverup or at the very least dismiss the accusations of the whistleblower booster (because of his criminal background not the accuracy of his statements), I don't know what to tell you.

Not to mention they botched up how they were handling this investigation up bad at one point

At this point it's pretty clear that a lot of the stuff in the Yahoo story was unsubstantiated at best, completely made up at worst.

Thats just it True. They're like any major corporation that has slimey executives with ulterior and selfish motives. The left hand does not know what the right hand is doing and when it comes down to it, both are just in a rat race to better themselves. When it's all said and done, they've collectively dropped the ball and have limited authority based on their own self implosion.

I'll be plum tickled when every major university washes their hands of them and tells them to kick rocks, we can govern ourselves.

Were they caught in the middle of a bold faced lie like pearl was? No, it is stupid trying to compare the two.

"There's no veracity to his claims" is a bold face lie. The biggest difference is Miami lawyered up and turned the tables on the NCAA and its nefarious way of handling the investigation.

There's obviously some veracity to his claims, but he hurt his own credibility when he claimed that "Millions had been given to recruits and players" when only about $170k could be proven, $90k of which went to Wilfork and Rolle after they graduated so Miami isn't liable for that. But "Millions in Benefits, and Hookers, and Stripper Abortions!!!1!1!1!!!!" gets a lot more internet hits than "$80k in benefits spread out over 8 years".

All Miami did was cooperate with the investigation and be forthcoming, there was no "lawyering up" unless you take that to mean "asking the NCAA to prove the allegations of wrongdoing".

Really, who didn't see this coming? As long as Emmerit is in charge no major university will be punished for these type of violations.

If they did he would run the risk of having to "show cause" his buddy Saban at some point.

So pretty much do whatever the hell you want for a decade, but when the NCAA comes just tell them the truth and you're good.

NCAA proves yet again their incompetence
