Michael Dyer - now Louisville bound (merged)

What's your opinion of the possibility that Dyer is a Vol?

In all seriousness I could care less if we take him or not. I think Neal and Lane were runnin pretty good last year and I expect them to be even better this year.

I also like what I saw from Alden Hill in the spring game, he was a dead North/South runner and always seemed to fall forward so I expect him to contribute from the 3rd spot.

The only question mark is if 2 of the 3 go down with injuries then there's a problem..

Joking, right?
I can hardly see someone sending the kid a t-shirt and a hat bringing down the hammer of the NCAA. In fact, they are missing their hammer right now. Running for cover, because the 5 major conferences are about to chuck the NCAA into the Tennessee River. The 5 commissioners have hinted as much, in the past week.

I think a little Butch slapping is all this kid needs. Him, Lane and Neal would be a nice 1, 2, 3 punch. With our unproven qb's and wr's we may need 3-4 backs. Would especially help in clock control games like Oregon
Indeed. I'd like to see the kid get one last chance. I think he's learned a hard lesson and would play hard for Butch if given another shot.

He definitely would give us a power runner, and would be a great 3 way combination.

Get real man. With all of the paranoia sounds like some of you are the ones smoking weed.

It's a very nice gesture for sure, but what you are admitting to doing is equivalent to $100 handshakes (or $20 handshakes) in the eyes of the NCAA. It is a violation, and if the kid accepts the gift, it puts his eligibility at risk before he even steps foot on campus. He will be made to repay the cost of any items he receives to charity by the NCAA. So, you are actually doing him a disservice in your attempt at charity.

A noble thought on your part, but please reconsider it. It is a slippery slope and the NCAA doesn't care about the value. You see it as harmless. They would see it as an opportunity to investigate.

Are you on the NCAA committee or privy to their meetings? If not then you're either being reckless or naive.

I'm sure Bruce Pearl said "BBQs no big deal", right?

Giving a kid a t-shirt and a hat is not the same as a hundred dollar handshake. It's when money, cars and big ticket items are involved, that gets the NCAA's attention.

Yes it is the same. For example, the Lady Vols basketball staff inadvertently gave the players an extra $3 for meals (more than their per diem allows). They were forced by the university to payback $3 to charity. As ridiculous as that sounds, it's proof that the NCAA doesn't care about the value of extra benefits. The university knows that, and went so far as to have these ladies repay $3 to make restitution.

what you are suggesting is absolutely illegal. The recruit who you said wasn't able to afford the goods in the first place could be forced to repay the value to restore his eligibility. It's an idiotic idea

Send the goods to Cecil Newton with instuctions of where to make delivery. Cecil knows how to get things done and nobody gets in trouble.

the AA rewrote the rule book after that one to include family members as potential agents. but nice try anyway

Isn't gifting only a violation if the gifter is associated with the university? I mean damn, the kids wouldn't be able to accept birthday presents if it's that strict. If Pratt donates to UT ( you don't right?) or if he was an employee/volunteer then it would be another story.
