I don't think it would ever be allowed to look like he passed, it just doesn't work that way.
When I put everything to the side, everything we've just been through with a young coach, everything I know about the fan's expectations, the way the roster looks, having to be a guy with 3 years of experience and going up against Calipari, Donovan, Pearl, Stallings etc...I can see him taking the job.
The problem is, I can't put all that aside, if I were in his shoes, I wouldn't put all of that aside.
I still think it's a shady process by anyone who does it. It's generally done to get a specific player that coach is close to. It just seems like dealing with handlers.
It's starts to get into a gray area of, are the aau coaches doing what's best for their okayer or trying to get the best new gig?
And being a ga and an assistant at mercer isn't qualifications enough to be a highly paid assistant at a program like UCLA. That's like saying I worked a rack room shoes for a year then nike hired me as a designer.
CBS Sports confirmed that AD Dave Hart has his eyes set on White
I wouldn't believe everything you hear or say...
California has targeted Xavier's Chris Mack as next head coach - CBSSports.com
On this Easter Sunday, Tennessee's search for a new basketball coach is ongoing. As we reported in our Wednesday update, Louisiana Tech head coach Michael White was a guy that Tennessee's search party of Jon Gilbert and Dave Hart reached out to early after Cuonzo Martin's depature on Tuesday.
Sources confirmed to Volquest that Tennessee had discussions with White on Thursday and the two sides had further discussions throughout the evening on Saturday. Where or how the talks took place on Thursday is unknown. We know Hart
was in town on Thursday, at least through the daytime hours. We also know that a UT plane and a private business/donor plane were out for several hours Thursday, meaning Tennessee potentially could have sent multiple persons out to speak with potential candidates --- and almost certainly one of those trips being White.
...
One other note, there was some Saturday Twitter talk about Tennessee and Ben Howland, from the sources we spoke with as of late afternoon Saturday there had not been any contact of any kind with Tennessee and Howland.
I'm good with White. He's a much better coach than Martin was and I'm more convinced by his recruiting abilities at Ole Miss that he can do the same, and easier, at UT. He also built that LA Tech from scratch and is a future star, in my opinion. We passed on Bill Self and Gregg Marshall, so I hope we don't miss out on another great up and comer. Martin never had the pedigree.
Butch Jones had only signed one four star ever before UT.... Sometimes it has a little bit to do with facilities and location
How about when he was an assistant at Ole Miss? I think it's a fair question if one of his selling points is what a great recruiter he supposedly is.
^^^ ding ding ding. See my post above. Recruiting to UT might be slightly different than LA Tech. What had Martin ever done in recruiting at Mizzou St. and he landed two 5* at UT.
