Michael White (La Tech)

I think Mr. White is exactly the kind of coach that Hart is looking for. He's young, energetic, appears to be a rising star, and he can get him cheap. He knows the majority of the fan base will give him at least 2.5 years.

I'm just so relived that Cuonzo is gone, they could hire about anyone and I would be excited.

I'd say worry about it in 3-4 years, if it even comes up at all.

It will and maybe sooner than you think...He played there for 4 years and was an assistant there for 7 years...He won't even say goodbye when they call....And VOLnation will melt down again.

We have had one coach leave for the school of his dreams and we think every coach will leave.....I'm not afraid of ole miss in the least.

If nothing else, the debate in this and other threads clearly demonstrates that White is not going to win the presser, unite the fanbase or be lauded in the media as a homerun hire. I just don't see why you hire a guy that cannot deliver on at least one of those, if not two or three.

Serious question: why do people care so much about "winning" a press conference? It's pretty hard to lose unless it's Dana Altman at Arkansas.

Nothing against White, but guys like him are easy to hire, which is why so many schools go this route. As someone said above, has had a little success and comes cheap. In the end Hart won't have a clue whether his hire will succeed or not--you roll the dice, you hope.

For those asking about White's recruiting, I alluded to it last night. His bio says that he guided several top ranked classes at OM. I am somewhat familiar with OM considering I am in Memphis, and that is a little generous. I don't recall any or many high ranked classes at OM. I looked back, and the ones that were included a high number in the class, not necessarily highly ranked players. The reason I said they only made NIT's is because that is usually indicative of what kind of talent you have. Nonetheless, he did recruit Terrico White and Chris Warren, who were great finds and very good college basketball players. I have no doubt that White can identify good players, and he may even be able to help in Memphis. It may take him a year or two to get high level talent, but that is to be expected with a new, young hire. I will get on board with whoever they hire.

So Hart should hire a guy like Shaka, who will jump to an Indiana-level job at first chance? Got it.

Also, EVERY hire is a risk. You don't know that Marshall would be worth 3 million here

When Ole Miss comes calling....He's gone

All coaches don't leave to go to their alma mater....if they think they have a better job and are happy. Les Miles for instance has turned down Michigan to stay at LSU. Tennessee basketball is a better job than Ole Miss.

No but he should hire a coach he feels will be here long term...You will not get that with White.

And you have nothing to prove your statement at all. Your guessing. ALOT of ex players/ex assistant coaches never return to where it all started. If ole miss is our competition and the UT brass want to keep the man, I like our chances.

Tennessee's search to replace Cuonzo Martin as its men's basketball coach is now focused on Louisiana Tech's Michael White, multiple sources told CBSSports.com on Saturday.

Martin left UT last week to coach at California.

A source told CBSSports.com that UT has informally contacted some "A-list" candidates but that the interest hasn't been mutual. Another source told CBSSports.com that at least one potential candidate expressed no interest mostly because Tennessee's roster is in bad shape given that the Vols are losing four of their top five players from a Sweet 16 team.

White just finished his third season at Louisiana Tech, where he averaged 28 wins over the past two seasons and finished tied for first both years. The 37-year-old played four seasons at Ole Miss and spent seven seasons as an assistant at his alma mater before accepting the Louisiana Tech job in March 2011. He's the son of Duke athletic director Kevin Whi

It is something you still have to ask about. Regardless if you think he wouldn't leave, you have to do your due diligence and ask. Unlike some coach's alma maters, OM is a school that many alums are proud of and love the area. If OM offered the same pay or slightly less, we are kidding ourselves if it wasn't an option. Oxford has that kind of effect on people.

No I am going by his history...But go ahead and believe what you want...You have absolutely nothing that proves he won't go...It just appears by his history he has a lot of love for that school.
