Easter Sunday brought about full discussion of will he or won't he in regards to Louisiana Tech's Michael White and the Tennessee job.
As we noted on Saturday, White and Tennessee had conversations throughout the day. However, no deal was
reached in large part due to some security in the contract with regards to what would be the buyout by Tennessee, according to multiple sources, once a deal moved beyond the first two seasons. Much like with the proposed new deal that Cuonzo Martin would have received, a lower buyout on Tennessee's side remains a focal point for UT officials weary of paying coaches exorbitant buyout sums to not coach on Rocky Top.
The talks from Saturday continued into Sunday. At mid-day it appeared that the two weren't close to a deal; however sources say both sides were still talking, although how much with it being a holiday is debatable. Sunday night, it was rumored
that White had turned Tennessee down. However what's unclear as we head into Monday is whether or not the two sides have moved on or if they are still talking with each other.
White was with his family this weekend in the state of Florida.
If White, who has a good team returning next season, decides he's definitely not coming to Tennessee then where Hart goes next is an interesting move. White emerged as the frontrunner been Friday and Saturday and he has been the focus for
Tennessee. But White also is seen as a strong potential candidate a year from now at his alma mater, Ole Miss; Andy Kennedy enters the 2014-15 season squarely on the hot seat.
As we reported last week, Tennessee and Southern Mississippi head coach Donnie Tyndall had a conversation and Tyndall has clearly been interested in the Tennessee job. Sources have indicated that Tyndall is interested in the job but that he also as of Sunday evening hadn't heard from any Tennessee officials since last Thursday.
