Michael White (La Tech)

I never actually realized this until the Zo saga, but there is apparently 2 different buyouts. 1 for if the coach decides to leave, and 1 for if the school decides to fire the coach. Now some places may be different and that number may be the same, but I guess in most cases that's 2 different numbers.

Thanks.

Hadn't you rather have an AD that keeps things close to the vest rather than have have an ad dept like a Dutch dike, all the boys in holland couldn't fill those holes?

Absolutely, but most are used to the regular sources. If it turns out Hart has plugged those or is now feeding them BS that'll be a new twist.

@b_hoss_mac @withrowzone ahh well that is a totally different situation then. No way he turns down 1.3 million at UT. No. Way.

BTO, help me out please with the buyout. Basically shouldn't it be pretty much the same for the coach and the school. Say I hire you at 2 mill for 5 years, but in year 3 I decide you aren't working out. I still owe you 4mill. Now if you decide to leave after three years, do you me 4 mill? Or is there a sliding scale? Thanks.

The buyout isnt as simple as that. Two numbers agreed upon by both parties. One for if the coach leaves early and another if the school forces the coach out.

As an AD you want to secure the coach so you push up the number if he tries to leave. Normally the school he leaves for pays the buyout so you want to make it unattractive for them.

The coach wants to make sure he has options if it isn't working out and that the school is committed to him. So he wants the owe the school little if he leaves and get a lot if he is forced out.

Normally you can find common ground.

I seem to recall Pearl's buy-out to leave was higher than his buy-out if fired.

Fulmer's was opposite.

What would you place percentage at that White is the next Tennessee coach?

So if White is hired, it's told ya so. If White is not, blame Cheek. Sounds like a good out to me.

Well that's cool if I cared what you or anyone else thought about my post. If I wanted to seek attention I would have just started a thread with my info. I'm not making what I said up, so you can take it or go off what Hymas, etc says who's not even in the loop most the time.

Pearl's buyout to leave Auburn is $5 million (!) for each of the next two years, and then it goes down a million a year after that. I'd wager heavily that provision was put in to ensure that he couldn't leave to come back here if and when our job opened up.

In return, Auburn has no buyout -- if they fire Pearl, they owe him the whole rest of his contract. They've chained themselves together for a long time.

I think it is done. But I just don't know who's info is accurate.

Hart is very deceptive. And I know he has leaked misinformation.

The man has proven he could recruit and win in the SEC and on the big stage. Paying big money on a sure thing is not much of a risk at all IMO. As long as Pearl learned his lesson on what took place at UT, au made an outstanding hire.

I was gonna say 60% lol

I trust who told me, but the rest of the usual sources seem to be leaning the other way. And now reports out of Louisiana saying the same, who knows.

I know it's late, but I do think if it was dead that would've been leaked and you would've heard new name by now. Appears to me like if there is a snag Hart wants White and is trying to hammer it out.

Sorry...but I just want to understand. Do you think it is done he is our next coach or that he is staying at LT?

I think he is the next coach. But I can't say for certain.

It is starting to remind me a lot of the charlie strong hire no hire situation.

I'll forget the Gruden is our next coach thread if White is hired.

Fair enough. The one thing I have learned is you can't trust anything coming from anywhere. Not even directly from hart.

Once they have a press conference and they are introduced then it is done.

I'm not sure he's deceptive, he just doesn't disclose any info until things are done, which leaves others to just speculate and run on rumors

A good lesson for all of us who chase coach searches on message boards.
