Michael White (La Tech)

I predict that another Dooley will make an appearance on Rocky Top. I predict that the 4 "Google hire" names that you mention aren't interested and a Desperate Dave Hart goes to Florida Gulf Coast to hire Joe Dooley as the next coach of the Volunteers. #Book It

Coach Michael White would be an excellent choice to be the new basketball coach at UT. Very impressive record where he has been and the work he has done recruiting in the south. I know some will bemoan the fact that he is at La. Tech right now, but everybody has to start somewhere. Heck, Coach Mears was at Whittenberg College before he came to UT and that worked out well. Coach Devoe was at Wyoming. It is not where you start, but where and how you finish. IMO, I think this young man could do a great job here and we wouldn't have to worry about him leaving.

Michael White, Louisiana Tech:*White, the son of Duke Athletic Director Kevin White, has connections to the SEC, having played at Mississippi and later spent seven seasons as an assistant coach there. He is 74-31 since venturing out on his own at Louisiana Tech and led the Bulldogs to an average of 28 victories the past two seasons. He's still waiting to make his first NCAA Tournament appearance but shared the Conference USA regular-season title this season and led the Bulldogs to the quarterfinals of the National Invitation Tournament. He recently signed a contract extension due to pay him $3.6 million over the next six seasons. It's hard to imagine the 37-year-old turning down the opportunity and raise that Missouri could offer, unless he lands at Tennessee first.

I noted in the other thread that there were rumbings of some conversations with La Tech's Mike White. Tennessee and White according to multiple sources spoke in some capacity on Thursday. Not sure if it was by phone, or face to face and who with. Hearing some chatter of rumblings of a follow up conversation since Thursday, but no confirmation of that at this point.

I owe that poster an apology if it turns out Hart really is in LA

I wanted to say that UT was in LA, but honestly there is a ton of misinformation.

Hmmm interesting, I've never seen the other guy post and usually the 1 post Joe's are FOS....but first him, now Hubbs hinting at it, and you saying it and I'm starting to wonder.

What other stuff you hearing?

All I heard is they talked and it went well. From what I understand this is the type hart is looking for.

But as I said the AD is putting out misinformation. For sure.

Thanks for the info. He's the son of a Duke AD, gotta imagine he's a good guy that knows how to rep a university, I imagine Hart would love him.

So if true they have been in contact since Thursday, and possibly multiple times, could it be a situation where mizzou is indeed liking the idea of White there as well?

My gut tells me there will be a coach in place Monday. Really hope it's Michael White...

That is what I am hoping plays out as well. I felt good about the Butch Jones hire weeks before he ever took the podium. I think White can win at UT and get us back to being feared on the court.
