Michael White (La Tech)

I just got in after catching up on some quality-time with my 12-year old today.

Just want to re-iterate what Brent posted below. We are hearing a LOT of Mike White chatter tonight.

I think it may be premature to say that they've offered him the job at this point, but I wouldn't be surprised if we got to that point in the very near future. We are working the phones and tracking it very closely.

Again, this may end up being idle speculation, but there is a lot of smoke around this one at the moment.

The entire time since the new Head Coach search started my gut feeling has been Michael White would be selected. I watched his team against Florida State in the NIT & they impressed me. Fast paced in your face, burying three pointers, controlling the boards & laying it all on the line.

People are all "LOL" on twitter and they will be until they look at what the guy has done in such a short time

Right or wrong, part of it is because White's resume is very similar to Martin's before he was hired. Doesn't mean anything for the future, but it is kind of ironic.

Here is a nice quote about Michael White off of the LaTech website...

"In calling college basketball games for almost 30 years, you have a tendency to remember the dynamic kids when they are young players. You have a feel over time that these guys are going to be tremendously successful and great leaders later on. I saw it with Sean Miller at Pittsburgh. I saw it with Billy Donovan when he was playing at Providence. I had a feeling all along that both of those guys had tremendous talent, but they were achieving beyond their talent as players and had the ability to make other players better. Michael White was very much in the same category at Ole Miss as those two were. He was every bit the leader as those two."

I'm not sold on White.

Only 3 years of being a HC? Was an assistant for awhile (7 years) at the school he played for?

Sounds familiar? He's like Cuonzo but with a slightly better record and recruiting efforts.

Yes. Hell yes. If he pulls off this hire and Butch Jones works out in the long-term I'll start feeling really good about Dave Hart.

Same here. I had a good feeling about Butch when he was hired. I have the same feeling about White. I hope Hart pulls this off.

If he is "like" Zo and can get 3-4 more wins a year, that translates into 5-7 seed tourney invites. He recruits well with everything Tennessee has to offer and his SEC ties, 30 wins is possible. All at around a million a year? Yes please.

56 wins in two years, the best two-year stretch in school history. Better than the time they had some guy named Karl Malone

Google his name and read the stories about him...You'll change your mind

And he is a southern. Loves the south and wants to be here. Dad is Duke AD. Full of energy....hopefully full of passion. I like it.

If Cuonzo had won a few more games and recruited just a little better, the perception of him would be a lot different.

So yeah, I hope this guy wins a little more and recruits a little better.

I've thought White was the logical choice from day one. He fits right into the current UT/Dave Hart mold, which is a young, energetic, up and comer, with a high ceiling and fairly cheap price tag a la Butch Jones, although I would say Jones was more established.
