Michael White (La Tech)

I'd say his bonus points are from taking a horrible team(2-14 in the WAC) to 18 wins and the next year 27 wins... he's earned his bonus points,he's not being given anything...

First two years was in the WAC. Last year was in the C-USA with an expansion.

4 teams in the C-USA had same records 13-3 in their conference.

I would rate Tyndall slightly lower than White and Mack as about even. Howland would desperately take the job and Cronin would probably leave his alma mater and train wreck of a conference to have Tennessee's facilities.

I do not see Cronin leaving Cincy. He makes more than we will initially pay.

Mack on resume would be above White, not really close IMO. Tyndall deserves to be ahead of White as well IMO.

I think Cronin was gonna cost more than Tennessee was really wanting to spend and that's why you saw nothing from Tennessee's end.

It's been clear from Day 1 that Howland wanted the job, but apparently he can't even get Hart to call him back lol.

Going against Donnie Tyndall (someone people have wanted) and Tim Floyd who out coached Zo and has been thought of as one of the best X's and O's coaches out there. To compete with those guys at his age is impressive.

What players is he attributed to getting? I am in Memphis and casually keep up with OM because they are local. Andy Kennedy took several years to make the NCAAT and just last year. I just don't recall a top 25 class at OM.

A finalist for the 2009 Coaches Award presented by BasketballScoop.com - honoring the top assistants in the college game - White was instrumental in the Rebels' rise to prominence in the Southeastern Conference as he helped lead the program to four postseason berths and a pair of SEC West titles in the past five years. The Rebels won 20 or more games four of the last five seasons.
White was very well-known in the recruiting circles nationwide, especially in the Southern region of the country. He helped Ole Miss land three recruiting classes ranked in the Top 25 in the country by numerous recruiting publications, including the 2005 class that was ranked as high as No. 7 by Hoop Scoop. In addition to his recruiting responsibilities, he worked closely with the Rebel guards, including helping Terrico White who earned the SEC Freshman of the Year award and Freshman All-America accolades in 2009. Ole Miss had five guards named all-SEC during the last five seasons and eight different guards that made seven or more three-pointers in one game during that stretch.

Cronin may leave, but it won't be for an ego driven, penny pinching dummy like Hart is. Howland would probably go for a lot less than his worth, but there's no way this administration is going to hire his demanding personality.

we dont need Howland and i for one dont want him, he cant control his players and we all know that would be big troble for UT

The reservation for White very well could be this....

He has 4 starters returning next year, a likely NCAAT and another 25+ win team. If that happens his stock goes even higher and he likely can land a better job and more money than Tennessee.

Does he risk that to come to a Tennessee team who returns 1 starter?

I don't know how the WAC and C-USA are compared. He was at WAC for 2 years and then went to C-USA.

4 teams tied for 13-3 record, but L-Tech came up on top.

They will most likely be considered to win conference champions next year.

Agreed. Tyndall has a better resume and Mack has proven that he knows how to run a power program. I feel White has better upside, though.

Exactly. People wanted to get mad at me and tell me I'm wrong that Hart is going cheap, but it's the truth. He's not gonna spend over $2m and that's obvious to anyone with half a brain. He's also not going to hire a guy like Howland IMO.

That doesn't leave a whole lot of great names left, miller, Tyndall, white, Mack and Pitino probably.

Mack and Pitino likely take more to leave than what the value is, same for Miller. That leaves White and Tyndall.

Wes Rucker just said on twitter that CM Newton is promoting White....and if that is the case this may be over. Guessing he is talking about Tennessee? I hope.

Don't forget Danny Manning for 1 year too!

But not all of that translates to the next level.

Personally, I'd wait to see what Danny does at Wake Forest. If he succeeds there for awhile, you know White will be a grand slam.

I cant see White turning it down unless he wants Ole Miss which I think will be open next year. Its true that. his stock may rise, but what jobs better than UT will open? Preatige jobs will pull bigger names imo. An SEC job with UT's facilities would be hard to pass up. JMO

If he's shaky on leaving, offer him $1.5-1.8M. I'm ok with that.

I'd prefer Tyndall but is take White too.

Major issue with White: him leaving for Ole Miss when they come calling.

How could anyone stand to follow We$ on twitter? This guy....

@wesrucker247: Heard the same. RT @GaryParrishCBS: Tennessee’s search has now turned toward Louisiana Tech’s Mike White, a source told @CBSSports.

@wesrucker247: @GaryParrishCBS It continues to be funny to me that we seem to usually talk to the same people.

If White came to Tennessee, does he have any high-caliber recruits who might follow him here?

Flipping the question...

Would Tennessee's remaining signees fit well into White's pace and style?

I quit long ago. He's completely insufferable.

Interesting. Obviously it's a bio, but it has a great slant to it. I looked at that "7th rated class" in 2005, and it was high because of numbers. They took like 7 guys and all were 3 stars. I am telling you that I know quite a bit about OM programs, and they hardly ever have rated recruiting classes in basketball. He got Terrico White, who was good. However, White didn't get an offer from Memphis and OM benefitted from others overlooking him. He also got Chris Warren, a good find. But I think Warren was only a 3 star. The four post season births that is referring to are all NIT's. Anyway, I hope he can recruit well. But that bio is very generous.

1.5-1.8 would be over paying IMO. I like the hire, but don't over pay to get him. If your getting close to 2 million per, that opens up a different group of possibilities IMO.

First question - no
Second - yes
