You stay in their top suite per night and get one for the kids too, that's 2,000 per night, you eat butter lobster of the stomach of a native woman that's 1000 a meal times 3 per day. You stay one week that's 4,000 for flights, 14,000 for rooms, 2100 for food, and let's just blow 10 grand for the hell of it. That's a total of 26,100 dollars.


10 million buys 383 of these trips.

THREE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY THREE living large trips.

That equals 2681 days of straight vacation because each trip is 7 days. That breaks down to 7 years of straight vacation.

Me either. It's hilarious how anyone thinks the Dems are better than the Repulicans or vice versa. The two party system has almost ruined our government. What we more than anything are the fringes and then both sides like to use the broad brush when applying labels to each other.

And I'm not sure but I think taking Airforce One is slightly more expensive than buying 4 round-trip tickets for your family for 1k at Southwest.

Just a guess.

Edit: not to mention the 10 million dollar number was pulled out of thin air.

You do realize he wasn't trying to say "If a President takes this trip.", right? It was an example to show what 10m would look like with trips meeting that criteria.

If you want to argue the 10m figure itself so be it but the observation above is just lazy.

How the hell is what it costs him to take his crew to Disneyland relevant at all?

They should sell Air Force One and start flying business class on southwest next to Neocon. How about selling the White House? Downsize. All they really need is a 2 bedroom condo somewhere, anyways.

We're talking about the President here guys, not you and yours.

I think it was exactly (though I could be wrong) NEO's intent to put that 10m amount in context with the rest of us...and a darned extravagant level at that.

For myself, as a matter of pure dollars, it doesn't seem "overly" crazy compared to all the other govt spending out there. OTOH it really doesn't look good considering a lot of the rhetoric coming out of the WH concerning the need for sacrifice/belt tightening/pea eating/etc.

Does it really matter? Even if paper work comes out proving these allegations are true it's quite obvious that you will continually defend the expense regardless.

Im not asking them to fly Southwest (which doesnt fly international) What I am asking is if they use AF1 for personal reasons, then they should pay the rate for a first class ticket to that destination. Its only fair because thats what the rest of the country would have to do. We are all trying to be fair, right?

And how do you know for sure it's misused? All sorts of right wing blogs and op-eds criticized the Obama's for the India trip and how much it cost and then when the facts got checked, it was realized that all but the President paid for their own trips. How do you know what they paid for on this trip with taxpayer funds and what they paid for out of their pocket?
