I may be in the minority here, but I don’t mind stealing signs if it is done as part of a live game. When I coached football as a DC, I would always have an offensive coach or player that would pick up on signs and relay them to me. I had a LB that was elite at it and would adjust us accordingly. It’s just part of the game to use what you see.
If UM is digitally recording signals and deciphering them, they need wins vacated. Regardless, I do not believe for one second that Harbaugh knew nothing was happening.
They have to vacate win, ban from bowls, and show cause the staff of the rumors are true. The former scenario is perfectly legal and probably used by every coach in the league. It makes sense.
But the latter scenario is what UM is being investigated for. They had a guy going to future opponents and possible play off opponents and filming their sidelines to figure out their signs.
UT was in that top bracket 20 years ago. There's a difference between the brand and the on-field performance of the program. Most Michigan fans think that their brand and the historical performance of the program is elite. Just the former is.
UGA does not belong in the list of schools you mentioned. It is a great but not elite brand, the last 2 years of performance notwithstanding. IMO the "elite" brands of CFB are Alabama, Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio St, Oklahoma, Texas, and USC. UGA, Tennessee, UF, etc. are in a tier below that. Clemson is in a tier below that. Brands are not built in the last 5, or even 25, years of performance.
Connor Stalions, the suspended Michigan staffer at the center of the NCAA's sign-stealing probe, purchased tickets in his own name for more than 30 games over the past three years at 11 different Big Ten schools, sources at 11 different league schools told ESPN.
The scope of the University of Michigan's alleged sign-stealing operation includes both video evidence of electronics prohibited by the NCAA to steal signs and a significant paper trail, sources told ESPN. Stalions forwarded the tickets he bought to at least three different people in different areas of the country, sources say, which hints at the breadth of the operation.
Did Harbaugh go to the Belicheck school of coaching?
If the NCAA doesn't take it's usual 4+ years to come to a conclusion they might could do that.Yeah, this is pretty blatant. They allegedly have security video of a guy in the seat that was bought by Stalion with a phone recording the sideline the entire game. Seems like a big operation. A lot of money for tickets and travel. Especially good enough seats to have those views.
This should be pretty open and shut. Hard to say what kind of penalties there would be, it is unprecedented. But id love to see Harbaugh suspended for the playoffs or bowl.
Georgia head coach Kirby Smart is asked directly about the reports about Michigan stealing signs.
Smart: "There's nothing I remember about the Michigan game (2021 playoff semifinal) that makes me think that [happened]"
And Deion is right . This is really taking on a life of its own.
This is America, so why TF you choosing Nebraska v Louisiana Tech when God’s gift to football, the Iowa Hawkeyes, are playing that same Saturday??Oh. I’m sorry. We can’t just buy a ticket and watch a game against Nebraska and Louisiana Tech on a crisp Saturday in Lincoln?
I thought this was America.
