Michigan Investigated for Sign Stealing

I may be in the minority here, but I don’t mind stealing signs if it is done as part of a live game. When I coached football as a DC, I would always have an offensive coach or player that would pick up on signs and relay them to me. I had a LB that was elite at it and would adjust us accordingly. It’s just part of the game to use what you see.

If UM is digitally recording signals and deciphering them, they need wins vacated. Regardless, I do not believe for one second that Harbaugh knew nothing was happening.

The former scenario is perfectly legal and probably used by every coach in the league. It makes sense.

But the latter scenario is what UM is being investigated for. They had a guy going to future opponents and possible play off opponents and filming their sidelines to figure out their signs.

They have to vacate win, ban from bowls, and show cause the staff of the rumors are true.

Honestly, how can you NOT do that? It seems like ignoring signals would just be slacking.

Hey-in person scouting is cheating. Just wanted to be the 38th person to clarify that in this thread

There's a difference between the brand and the on-field performance of the program. Most Michigan fans think that their brand and the historical performance of the program is elite. Just the former is.

UGA does not belong in the list of schools you mentioned. It is a great but not elite brand, the last 2 years of performance notwithstanding. IMO the "elite" brands of CFB are Alabama, Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio St, Oklahoma, Texas, and USC. UGA, Tennessee, UF, etc. are in a tier below that. Clemson is in a tier below that. Brands are not built in the last 5, or even 25, years of performance.
UT was in that top bracket 20 years ago.
We practically dismantled our brand after Fulmer.
The damage had already started, but most people still gave us the benefit of the doubt of being great up to the day we hired Dooley.

Wow this has gotten really serious

Connor Stalions, the suspended Michigan staffer at the center of the NCAA's sign-stealing probe, purchased tickets in his own name for more than 30 games over the past three years at 11 different Big Ten schools, sources at 11 different league schools told ESPN.

The scope of the University of Michigan's alleged sign-stealing operation includes both video evidence of electronics prohibited by the NCAA to steal signs and a significant paper trail, sources told ESPN. Stalions forwarded the tickets he bought to at least three different people in different areas of the country, sources say, which hints at the breadth of the operation.

Apparently there is video evidence being sent to the NCAA this week too

Did Harbaugh go to the Belicheck school of coaching?

Harbaugh would be the perfect hire by Robert Kraft to continue the Patriots cheating ways when Beli retires. Shoot, he could bring back Brady to make it a cheating trifecta.

If Belichek waits another year to retire, then they could hire Harbaugh as an analyst, give him the latest iPhone and send him out to future opponents games "to scout" signals. In the off season he could scout for the Astros.

Yeah, this is pretty blatant. They allegedly have security video of a guy in the seat that was bought by Stalion with a phone recording the sideline the entire game. Seems like a big operation. A lot of money for tickets and travel. Especially good enough seats to have those views.

This should be pretty open and shut. Hard to say what kind of penalties there would be, it is unprecedented. But id love to see Harbaugh suspended for the playoffs or bowl.

If the NCAA doesn't take it's usual 4+ years to come to a conclusion they might could do that.

If they have evidence this guy was buying tickets for people for future Michigan opponent games(and supposedly they do as was reference in the article above), and there's video evidence of that person sitting in the stands recording the other sideline I'd say it looks bad.

This is becoming Deflategate levels of people running with a story before any actual evidence has been released

Oh. I’m sorry. We can’t just buy a ticket and watch a game against Nebraska and Louisiana Tech on a crisp Saturday in Lincoln?

I thought this was America.
Hope you are being sarcastic. Schools voted this rule in. Michigan voluntarily joined this league and has to abide by the rules.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart is asked directly about the reports about Michigan stealing signs.

Smart: "There's nothing I remember about the Michigan game (2021 playoff semifinal) that makes me think that [happened]"

I just know that Harbaugh’s record sure has improved since that guy can on board. One year you get your salary cut in half because things aren’t going well, and the next you are a hero. But he still can’t win in the postseason when there is no opportunity to “scout”.

All the reports (if true) show this was so blatantly open that either Harbaugh is the dumbest person on planet earth if this is something that nobody does OR that this is common practice that Michigan didn’t care enough to hide it. And we know have multiple coaches going on record basically saying this isn’t a big deal.

And Deion is right . This is really taking on a life of its own.

I gotta agree with Deion here. Heck, how many of us look at a wildcat formation or 4th and 1 under center and know what’s coming? You still gotta stop it. Of all the things out there regarding cheating and scandals in the NCAA, this feels really stupid. There’s no difference in this and just TV-Oing an opponent’s game and rewatching all weekend long to learn their formations. Harbaugh is a dbag, but this is something I just don’t get what the big deal is about.

This is America, so why TF you choosing Nebraska v Louisiana Tech when God’s gift to football, the Iowa Hawkeyes, are playing that same Saturday??

I’ve heard Lincoln, NE is actually the most beautiful place in the Plains in September.
